1. The Blanche Hudson Weekend - The Bitterest Clash (Squirrel)
From the album "You Always Loved Violence" which is one of my personal faves from last year and if your one of the poor saps on this planet yet to get a copy you can buy the CD from the Squirrel Records website for a mere fiver. Now that's what I call value for money.
The Blance Hudson Weekend will release a new double A sided 7" single in March featuring "(Just Like) Susan George" b/w "To Be That Way Again" which will precede a new album to be released later in the year.

2. Black Twig - Hour Organ (Soliti)

Taken from the Finnish bands debut album "Paper Trees".

3. Locked Groove - Drowning (Hotflush)
One of three great tracks on the new E.P.

4. Boy Friend - Egyptian Wrinkle [The Whendays Remix] (Hell Yes)

A superb remix of the Texan duo's new single which is released this week. It precedes an album, also called "Egyptian Wrinkle" which will be released on 6th February on Hell Yes!

The vinyl L.P. will be limited to 1000 copies and pressed on very sexy pink marble vinyl and will include a digital download code in case you find it to beautiful to play. The first 200 will also be accompanied by a one sided 7" single.

5. Tennis - Traveling (Fat Possum)
This is a track from the new Tennis album "Young And Old" which is the follow up to last years warmly received debut "Cape Dory". It was produced by Black Keys' Patrick Carney and will be released on 14th February.

6. Clark - Com Touch (Warp)
The good news is there is a new Clark album just around the corner but alas the bad news is that it won't be released until April. However the nice people at Warp Records realize that some people will stuggle to survive until then so have given us this taster of the treats in store in the Spring. The album is called "Iradelphic" which as far as I'm aware doesn't mean anything at all but will mean alot when the album comes out in the U.K. on 2nd April and a day later in the States.

7. El Michels Affair - Run Fay Run (Truth And Soul)
As you can probably tell this is from a seven inch single on the Truth And Soul label.

"Side A is re-interpolation of Run Fay Run, the chase theme from Isaac Hayes' soundtrack Tough Guys. Instead of just covering it outright, EMA put an afro beat spin on the song by changing the arrangement, speeding it up considerably, adding percussion and Fela-esque horns. This is a DJ sureshot. "

8. Romantic States - Fear Of Flying (Self Released)
This is a track from an album you can download in full further down this page. I suppose you could call it an official bootleg made available by the band of a live performance recorded in the bands upstairs basement.

9. F.C. Judd - China Bowl (Public Information)
The first track on a peculiar album called "Electronics Without Tears" which contains no less than thirty Five tracks many of which are rather brief and will certainly feature in future Fodders. Unfortunately it only seems to be available on CD which is a bit of a shame because some of these tracks would sound even better with a bit of surface noise.

10. Sunns - Dirty Industry (Self Released)
This weeks track from the new album "Dream Familiar".

11. Hospitality - Betty Wang (Merge)
This is a bit of a treat. It's the debut album by Hospitality and should be available now on Merge Records. They are currently touring the States and the sooner they can find their way over to this side of the pond the happier I'll be.

12. Dressed In Wires - Wrong Hole (Bear With Me)
Another track from the new Dressed In Wires album ""Honey, You Tore Me Apart Last Night" which will also be unleashed on 14th February.

1. Field Mouse - Glass

This is a track which premiered on the Filter magazine website recently. It's by Brooklyn quartet Field Mouse who on 28th February will release a clear vinyl seven inch which will feature "You Guys Are Gonna Wake Up My Mom", recently featured in these pages on the A-side and "Happy" on the reverse which is described as a "Heavy Guitar Squall" and I look forward to hearing that. You can pre-order the seven inch at the Small Plates Records website.

2. Graphics - There's A Way Back [Dam Mantle Remix] (Get Me!)

A superb remix of the new Graphics single.

3. Porcelain Raft - Drifting In And Out (Secretly Canadian)

From the album "Strange Weekend" which is released this week on Secretly Canadian and if you're quick you will be able to get your hands on the limited edition white vinyl version.

4. Zafari - King Masaru (Truth and Soul)

This is a track from a seven inch single on Truth and Soul Records which features four tracks from the compilation "African Music Today" which was released on the same label last year.

5. You Say France And I Whistle - Animal (SPV Recordings)

Taken from the album "Angry Men" which will be released on 23rd January on SPV Recordings.

6. Brigitte Roussel - Candy Girl (Self Released)

This is the fine new single from Nac/Hut Report's Brigitte Roussel. You can download both tracks on this release from Brigette's Bandcamp page.

7. Walls - Into Our Midst (Kompact)

Taken from the London bands new 12" which was released last week on Kompact.

8. Spectrum & Silver Apples - The Edge (Space Age)

Taken from the album "A Lake Of Teardrops" which was issued back in 1999 but the possibility exists that few people have ever heard it. I think it's been out of press for quite a few years now so maybe I should just post the whole thing?

9. Two Sunns - Ran Wild (Self Released)

This is a track from the new Two Sunns album "Dream Familiar" which is slowly been released at the rate of one track a week. In fact one track every Wednesday from their Bandcamp page. All of the tracks are one a pay what you want basis and thus far three songs have made it into the world.

10. Fearbox - Nite Out (Self Released)

A track from the new E.P. by Ian Todd who until a couple of weeks ago liked to be called Telos but now has majestically transformed himself into Fearless. The E.P. has the snazzy title "E.P.1" and can be downloaded in full further down this page.

11. Red Horses Of The Snow - (Flashback)

Another track from the album "Territories" which is available as either vinyl or download from their inevitable Bandcamp page.

12. The Caretaker - When The Dog Days Were Drawing To An End (History Always Favors The Winners)

C'mon, how lovely is this. Taken from the album "Patience (after Sebald) which is the soundtrack to the documentary about the German author W.G. Sebald.

There are only 700 copies of the vinyl with the initial copies pressed on transparent blue vinyl.

Thanks to the nice folk at Bear With Me Records for making this available. The bad news is that this apparently will be the last album from South Sheilds (near Sunderland) based artist Ian Todd aka Telos. If this does turn out to be his last gasp I for one will be disappointed because as you will hear on this album the boy is not exactly running out of ideas. Incidentally this was produced by non other that Dressed In Wires which will probably give you an idea of what you are about to let yourself in for.

1. The Quiet Americans - Weird Mountain (CoatTrack)

This is a track from a six track cassette which is limited to just 100 copies and can be purchased, if any remain from the CoatTrack records website. Quiet they are not!

"Fresno, California band The Quiet Americans was formed in 2010 by songwriter Luke Giffen and drummer Eli Reyes. The Quiet Americans combine bright melodies and animal like drums with fuzzed out guitar squall. Sort of like Link Wray meets Dinosaur jr. filtered through an echo chamber.

The six song EP Medicine is their first release and is out on local cassette collectiveCoattrack Records. The recording of Medicine was a family affair, Eli is married to Luke’s sister, and Luke’s little brother Ross contributed moog synth to the record. The entire record was tracked to an old Tascam 8 track reel to reel recorder, in their practice space.The Quiet Americans have recently expanded their live lineup to include Simon Smeds on bass, and Steve Loveless on organ, and have played some cool shows including opening slots for A Place to Bury Strangers, The Fresh and Onlys, Royal Baths, and Light Pollution."

2. Pumice - Hey Crap Crab (Soft Abuse)

"Stefan Neville - the brains, heart & voice behind Pumice - has been relatively quiet of late. PUNY - released 6 March 2012 - is the first Pumice full-length album in four years, following an-album-a-year pace & life on the tour, abroad in years prior. Pumice has been mainly dormant during this time, aside from a split single with Grouper, and a few other EPs; instead Neville worked closely with others (as a member of Olympus, The Coolies, The Renderers, Chris Knox/The Nothing, and The Spunks & probably more), largely leaving alone his own music & visions.

As with all other recent Pumice outings, PUNY was recorded, conceived and performed by Neville himself. It's a melancholic, oft self-effacing work - even by his standards - yet not the product of an isolated soul. 3. Nature Set - I Am A Planet (Alt Version) (Naked Under Spacesuit)

This is one of the Nature Set tracks contained within the bright yellow cassette they share with Former Lover. There are only 100 of these dazzling items in existence and as you can see from the above picture if you don't happen to own a cassette player you can just fondle it in a suggestive manner. The cassette can be purchased from the Naked Under Spacesuit website for a measly £2.50.

4. Dressed In Wires - If I'm Not Meaty Don't Force It (Bear With Me)

Taken from the new Dressed In Wires album "Honey, You Tore Me Apart Last Night" which is the third of four records in their "Bring The Exhibits" series. This is from the press release.

"Presenting the third volume of 2011/12's Bring The Exhibits odyssey, this one's an album of post-traumatic wrong-cocked Sampledelica, 16-bit kronktronics, and dub-wave Wasteline. A shameless exercise in generation-defining glittery neo-goatsepop, it's a perfect soundtrack for the party that went wrong that you never wanted in the first place. Take it like you want it.

There will be 25 strictly limited edition special copies in individual hand-made packaging, for around 7 pounds each. When those copies are all gone, it will be put out as modest boring physical editions in plastic cases or something at dirt cheap prices. It's also available as a boring mp3 version at name-your-price prices, or probably torrentable for nothing if that's how your wrists are going to insist.

Please note this version of the release is the collector's edition self-released "first pressing", before it is no doubt re-released next year by whichever record label's left."

5. Gomez Addams - Dug A Hole (Self Released)

6. Grouper and Ilyas Ahmed - Flickering (Social Music Record And Tape Club)

Taken from the four track 12" E.P. "Visitor" which as far as I can make out is available exclusively through the Social Music Record And Tape Club which actually is pretty good value. Subscription costs $95 and for that you can expect no less than ten records. Nine 12"s and one 7". Check it out at the link above.

7. Venetian Snares - Lesbians 2 (Self Released)

Taken from the "Affectionate E.P." which appears to be a self released E.P available only as a download from their Bandcamp page.

8. Murder Mystery - Problems

Murder Mystery come from New York and this week release their six track "Problems E.P.". This is the tile track.

9. Sol Rezza - Paradox (Acustronica)

This is the first track on the album "Spit" recently issued on Acustronica and available for download in full further down this page. This particular track apparently comprises of "soundscapes of a lawn mower, a dog barking, sounds of lakes, piers and rivers in various locations. All of them modified through computer and virtual instruments with no MIDI connection". So now you know. That was about as clear as mud.

10. Coolrunnings - Spirit Of The High

A new track from the Knoxville four piece who last year released the superb "Full Moon" seven inch single on Too Pure records. This track is presumably from their debut album which will be released on 12th February on LebenStrasse Records.

11. Pop Will Eat Itself - Equal Zero (Cooking Vinyl)

I didn't realize Pop Will Eat Itself had returned but it seem they slipped in through the back door. This is their first album in almost sixteen years and it's always a bit of a concern when bands return after such a hiatus because you just hope they aren't trying to re-create their past. Fortunately P.W.E.I. do s

till seem to have new ideas and their current album "New Noise Designed By A Sadist" should give pleasure to the masses.

12. Drowner - Point Dume (Saint Marie Records)

A lovely way to end a Fodder. This is taken from Drowner's self titles debut album which will be released on Saint Marie Records on 13th March.

Honey - Under The Radar

This is an acoustic set Honey recorded for Under The Radar on Pulse Community Radio of their hometown Glasgow a couple of weeks ago. It features three songs two of which are brand new and the other a very nice version of "Summertone" which first appeared last year on the band's debut E.P. 7. Leatherface - Not Superstitious (Imaginary)
This is one of Leatherface's contributions to the "Seconds Out Round One" compilation which was released by Imaginary Records back in 1992. It featured session tracks recorded for the Mark Radcliffe show on BBC Radio one from the likes of Leatherface, Scorpio Rising, Dr Phibes and Boo Radleys. As far as I'm aware there was never a round two which is a bit of a shame. It's also a shame that the BBC don't release records like this any more despite still recording plenty of session especially for BBC 6 Music.

8. RM Hubbert - Car Song (With Aidan Moffat and Alex Capranos) (Chemikal Underground)
This is a track from RM Hubberts second album "Thirteen Lost And Found" which features quite a few more collaborations including a particularly welcome appearance by former Delgado Emma Pollock.
"Thirteen Lost And Found" will be released on Chemikal Underground on 30th January. I love the sleeve of this record.

9. Apteka - Where Days Go (Smart Like Virus Records)
I know this record has been around a few months now and really should have been featured earlier but better late than never as they say. It's a track from the new Apteka album "Gargoyle Days" and you really should try staring at that sleeve after a night on the town.

10. The Twilight Sad - Another Bed (Fat Cat)
Taken from the new Twilight Sad album "No One Can Ever Know" which will be released on Fat Cat on 6th February.

11. Hysterical Injury - Maths (Crystal Fuzz)
This is a track from what is already destined to be one of the best albums of 2012. It's the debut album from Bath based due Hysterical Injury and will be unleashed on 6th February. They will be touring to support this but alas don't come anywhere near the north of England. Well worth checking out if you get chance.

It comes from Finnish artist Ous Mal or to be more precise his new album "Ous Mal Is Dead, Long Live Ous Mal" which has just been released on Preservation Records of Australia. The CD-R can be obtained from the Preservation Records website but you had better be quick on you toes because there are only 100 copies on the planet.

Former Babies - The Blackout Album

"Former Babies, Moll Ball (AKA Mollie “boom tap” Reep) and Shawna England aren't musicians. They aren't trained on their instruments, they've listened to way too much punk rock, drank too many beers and have meltdowns on the weekly. These character flaws are what inspires their music. If it weren't for pesky brothers and shithead boyfriends the world would have a lot less music in it. They write cliché songs that describe what life is like whether you're a 14 year old girl or a 65 year old man.

Shawna whams the guitar and belts out screeching melodies, while Mollie hits the drums with sticks at a level just below barely audible. Regardless of all the adversity and strife that they have had to overcome, Moll Ball and Shawna continue to rock on. They will probably do so until the day that they die. Oh yeah, they're supposed to say something in this “bio” about how they are from the Bay Area."

1. Chocolate Robots - xxCross The Linexx (Self Released)

This is one of those records I just keep coming back to. It's the debut album from Sarnia based Chocolate Robots and has been knocking around since November but has probably been criminally overlooked for most peoples end of year lists. I did start an end of year list for Burning World but getting it anywhere below 100 record was proving impossible so I got in a huff and set it on fire.

2. Should - Own Two Feet (Captured Tracks)

This is a track from what was the debut Should record. "A Folding Sieve" originally released back in 1995 under the moniker shiFt on N.D. records. It has just been re-issued on Captured Tracks with a couple of extra bonus tracks.

3. The Jaffa Kid - IGTOBLRT Itch (Recycled Plastics)

Taken from the album Ohms which is the second release in the Recycled Plastics Bedroom Compost series. The ful release can be downloaded further down this page or go to the Recycled Plastics Bandcamp Page where you will also find the first release in the series, a three track EP by AQV which is also well worth a listen.

4. Screen Vinyl Image - Revival (Custom Made Music)

Taken from the album "Strange Behavior".

5. Red Horses Of The Snow - Siam (Flashback)

One of the best Christmas presents I got this year was this superb album by Red Horses Of The Snow. It's their debut release and can be purchased as a download from their bandcamp page but what you really want is the limited edition vinyl version which has been released on Flashback Records as a lovely gatefold album in a run of just 500 copies. Highly recommended.

6. Vladislav Delay - Lauma (Kompakt)

Taken from the album "Vantaa" which was actually released at the end of November on Kompact but I have been waiting for the perfect time to put a track into one of these Fodders... actually that was a load of b****cks the truth is I lost it.

7. Perhower - Spell Checker (Self Released)

This is the first track I've heard from Perhower which features at least some components from the now defunct Miss Halliwell. Good track.

8. Dot Dash - A Straight Line (The Beautiful Music)

Another track from the superb album "Spark>Flame>Amber>Ash" which is available now through The Beautiful Music.

9. Cloud Nothings - Fall In (Carpark)

It's taken a while but the debut album from Baltimore's Cloud Nothings is almost upon us. It will be released on 24th January on Carpark Recordings. The album was recorded using the productive genius of Steve Albini in Chicago. It doesn't seem to matter what Steve Albini produces, it always makes you feel like you've been slapped in the face by a bus.

10. Drums Of Death - The Jerk (Original Mix) (Civil Music)

This is a track from a four track 12" entitled "Red Waves" which has just been released on Civil Music.

11. Sunburned Hand Of The Man - A Red Rag To A Bull (Ecstatic Peace)

Taken from the 2010 album "A" which somehow bullied it's way back onto my i-pod this week. Must have been too much Christmas refreshments because I played a bit of it to my mum in the hope she might see the error of her ways (Cliff Richard fan) but all that seemed to happen was some rather violent shuddering and sweating and use of words I can't possibly say here. Suffice to say it affected her more than Cliff ever has!

12. Seafieldroad - Emily By The Seaside (Biphonic)

This is one of two brand new tracks by Seafieldroad which can be downloaded from Bandcamp on one of those pay what you like arrangements.

2. Hysterical Injury - Cycle One (Crystal Fuzz)
I've been meaning to include a track from this album for ages. It's the first material I've heard from Hysterical Injury who come from the south west of England, well Bristol and Bath anyway. Listening to the music it's hard to appreciate that there are only two people playing on here the sound is that expansive. I really believe that they could be ones to watch in 2012 but I won't say that too loudly as I have been known to be the kiss of death. They will release their debut album "Dead Wolf Situation" on Crystal Fuzz Records on 6th February. Apparently the duo released an E.P. back in 2009 called "Our Lives Are A Futuristic Nightmare" and I will not rest until a copy rests in my sweaty palm. According to their website they will be touring the UK and Ireland in February to coincide with the release and I will be eternally happy if they can include a York gig in that.

3. VSP - Parrot Song (AH Management)
Another track from the Finnish bands debut album "The Ultimate Collection Vol 1". It's pretty hard to stay miserable while you're listening to this.

4. Thavius Beck - Dubspot Session (Mush)
This is a track from the second of the three Amber Embers E.P.s released this month on Mush Records. Actually only the first two are available now the third volume in the series will be released next month and I look forward to hearing it.

5. Suuns - Bambi (Secretly Canadian)
Taken from the New York bands current 12" single.

6. Fixers - Majesties Ranch (Crocodiles Remix)
This isn't actually the same version of Majesties Ranch that appears on the Oxford bands new E.P. "Imperial Goddess Mercy" which is out this week on as a download or 10" vinyl which is limited to just 250 copies. but it is my favorite mix. Look out for an LP in 2012.

7. Tennis - Origins (Fat Possum)
This is the first taster from the duo's second album "Young And Old" which will be released on Fat Possum on 14th February. They have also announces some U.S. tour dates to coincide with the release.

I had forgotten how awesome Sofahead were. They arrived in about 1987 out of the ashes of DAN and released three albums all of which are well worth tracking down. This track is from their first album "Pre-Marital Yodelling".

10. Milano - The Fall (Original Mix) (Turbo)
This is as far as I know the debut release by Milano and bloody good it is too. I bet you thought I wouldn't be able to resist sticking a Fall record in afterwards... you were right.

11. The Fall - Taking Off (Cherry Red)
Taken from the current album "Ersatz GB" which was released in November on Cherry Red Records.

12. Half Man Half Biscuit - Left Lyrics In The Practice Room (Probe Plus)
Disappointingly the new Half Man Half Biscuit LP doesn't seem to have been particularly well advertised because I keep bumping into people who don't have the foggiest idea about it's existence which is a shame because it really is a fine piece of work. I thought the Wirral Boys had gone slightly off the boil on their last effort "CSI Ambleside" back in 2009 but fear not the form has returned and "90 Bisodol (Crimond) is a storming record. I always worry every time Half Man Half Biscuit release a record that it could be their last, I mean they have been doing this for a ridiculously long time now and normally bands who have been around for more than twenty years get a bit boring (I'm being polite there) but occasionally you get a sprinkling of genius that doesn't know how to put a foot wrong and both Half Man Half Biscuit and The Fall come in that category.

6. The Caretakers - Flowers For Peace (Self Released)
The first taste of The Caretakers forthcoming second album and bloody catchy.

7. Thavius Beck - In Excess (Mush)
Get yer dancing gear around this. It's taken from an E.P. called "Amber Embers Vol 1" which is the first is a series of three E.P.s the Minneapolis artist will be releasing over the next couple of months.

8. Dot Dash - Learn How To Fly (The Beautiful Music)
Dot Dash are probably the best band in Washington D.C Quite a claim I know But I haven't heard anyone better and it helps their case that one of their number used to be in St Christopher who are probably the best band to come out of York in the last thirty years or probably ever. Anyway this is a track from their debut album "Spark >Flame>Ember>Ash" which contains fourteen tracks and it rather wonderful in the same way that I've already had three Christmas lunches and each one tasted great, there's not a bad track on here. Some people will suggest they sound a bit dated but with this ridiculous 1950's revival that seems to be going on at the moment it's the future!

9. Boogie Monster - Bullfrog
This is splendid. I had it on full blast this morning and can still hardly hear a bloody thing. This track originally appeared on the Vancouver bands "Zechimechi" album earlier in the year but has now received some remix treatment from Davey Badiuk and Sam Ryan. Good job fellas!

10. Field Mouse - You Guys Are Gonna Wake Up My Mom (Small Plates)
Possibly ones to watch for 2012? Field Mouse are a four piece from Brooklyn and are not to be confused with the Field Mouse from Clyde Valley who recently issued a split cassette with Japanese War Effort. This, I'm led to believe is the first taste of an E.P. which will be released early next year on Small Plates Records.

11. Plastic Heart - The Day Is Done
This is a track from the Swiss duo's debut e.p. which is available from their Bandcamp page.

12. Tashaki Miyaki - Heartbeat (Self Released)
A brilliant version of the Buddy Holly classic.

Six Feet Below The Snow

It has been commented in previous years that I rarely include any Christmas records in the Festive Season and that's probably true. Not because there isn't any but more likely than not they're not very good to say the least. I mean there are only so many times you can listen to songs about snowmen, Reindeer and fat old men with white beards before you have to go and have a lay down until it's all over, or at least until someone cooks a nice roast turkey and fills your wine glass. The nice people at Silber Records however see things quite differently and have put together a Christmas compilation which is actually interesting. From the opening "Santa Don't Eat Smoke And Alcohol" by Charles DeMar through Moodring's disturbingly brutal version of "Silent Night" which has to be heard to be believed to moments of beauty from the likes of Yellow 6 and Lullibier.

This is a Christmas compilation fit to accompany any family occasion and if your Mum doesn't like it you can always turn the volume up!

"Snowbound" is his first release.

It's always nice to hear this again. It's the a-side from what I think was Blueboy's debut single for Sarah Records back in 1991.

12. The Fall - Blue Christmas (Live Recording)

One of the best vocal performances of the year? Probably not but don't let that take away from a very enjoyable reading of the popular Christmas number, made me laugh anyway. It was recorded at a venue calle The Laugh In in Chester on the last date of the current tour which I think has been very good indeed with the possible exception of the Edinburgh gig during which Mark E. Smith made himself scarce for most of the gig. The new album "Ersatz GB" has met with mixed responses but I'm certainly enjoying it more now after a few thousand listens. It was John Peel who once said of The Fall "They might not always be what you want but they are always what you need".

4. 93 Million Miles From The Sun - Time Lasts Forever (In At The Eye)
I've been looking forward to this record for months. The follow up to the Doncaster bands 2009 self titled debut was always going to be a tough call but I'm happy to say the effort has paid off and the new record "Northern Skies" delivers exactly what you would want as you can hear from this track.

5. Iowa - Complete Control (Self Released)
This is the first taster from the Melbourne bands debut album which will be released next year. All of the bands singles to date can be downloaded from their Bandcamp page.

6. The Orb - Beyond The Legend Of The Battersea Asparagus Triangle (Autolump Remix)(Malicious Damage)
A superb track from The Orb's impressive new album "C Batter C".

7. SPC ECO - Forever Each Day (XD)
SPC ECO have just released their second album. A thirteen track treat featuring a few tracks from their recent EP's and a whole host of new stuff. "You Tell Me" is available as a download from Bandcamp or for the more retro amongst you their is a CD version released on XD Records which is limited to just 1000 copies.

8. Palace Music - Ohio River Boat Song (Drag City)
This is always worth hearing again. Originally released as a seven inch single back in 1993 and subsequently included on the "Lost Blues And Other Songs" double LP compilation also on Drag City in 1997. One of Will Oldham's masterpieces.

9. Seapony - Emma's House (Magic RPM)
This Snowpony's version of the Field Mice classic. It come from the C44 compilation which can be downloaded in full below. It was put together to celebrate the twentieth birthday of French monthly magazine "Magic Revue Pop Moderne" and has some pretty terrific stuff on it. Apparently it will also be released on cassette at some point by Orchid Tapes. This may well already have happened but I can't find any evidence. I'm not a big fan of compilations these days, in fact not really since the days of "Heaven and Hell, A Tribute To The Velvet Underground" which was a great record featuring particularly good contributions from the likes of Ride, Motorcycle Boy and The Telescopes. I'll try and find my copy and maybe post it on here as soon as I remember.

10. Cousins - a (Self Released)
I'm loving this track at the moment. It's the first track on the "Axthoxy EP" which can be downloaded for free HERE.

11. Pressed And - Fire Shelf (Crash Cymbals)
Very nice indeed although looking at the cover you wouldn't really expect the noise contained within. You might think that looks like a cassette and you would be right. It's also limited to just 100 copies so I'm hoping that someone is going to see sense and release Pressed and's debut album on a much wider basis.

1. Spotlight Kid - April (Tri Tone/Pias)
It's been five years since the debut album from Nottingham's Spotlight Kid. "Departures" was a wonderfull record and featured on this site at the time. Finally, five years on and we have a second album which I'm pleased to say is also pretty spectacular. It's called "Disaster Tourist" and was actually released last month but I've been as fast as ever.

2. The Twilight Sad - Sick (Fat Cat)
This is the new single from the Glasgow four piece. It precedes the bands third album "Forget The Night Ahead" which will be released on 13th February. The band are currently touring the UK and are well worth catching up with as I discovered at the recent York gig.

3. GoldFFinch - Red Mask (Numbers)
Latest single from the Belgian duo. Out now on Numbers

4. New God - Motorcar (The Royal Army Recording Co.)
Taken from the album of the same name which will be released on 29th November.

5. Dope Body - Falling Down (HOSS)
Taken from the album "Nupping" which was released a few months ago on HOSS.

6. KWJAZ - Once In Babylon (Not Not Fun)

According to the Not Not Fun website KWJAZ is "San Franciscan Peter Berend's mystery mixtape unit" whatever that is. This release first appeared earlier in the year as a cassette released on his own Brunch Groupe label but has now been deemed worthy of a vinyl release by the nice people at Not Not Fun. It is limited to a slender 700 copies and I've got one so that leaves only 699. There are only two tracks on here, both clocking in at over 22 minuets and because of that I was tempted to edit this track down a bit but I really think you need ear the whole thing. I've discovered it's great to listen to whilst in the bath chewing on a bar of soap.

7. Lone - Dolphin (R&S)
Another track from the excellent "Echolocations E.P." I've just read that there was an album at the back end of last year called "Emerald Fantasy Tracks". Hopefully I will have found a copy of that by next week and if it's anywhere near the quality of this E.P. happiness will reign. Oh by the way, the "Echolocations E.P." is available on limited edition clear vinyl, or at least that's the what I've been told but have not seen the evidence for myself.

8. The Boo Radleys - How I Feel (Peel Session)
I was going through some old Peel Sessions recently and considered, as you do that most of them have still not been issued and therefore will probably never be heard again. I vaguely remember taping this one off the radio on my dad's old Toshiba stereo which eventually got broken due to my insistence as a young man to take things to pieces. Anyway this session was broadcast back in 1990 around the time of Liverpool bands second album "Everything Alright Forever" which was their glorious debut for Creation Records.

9. Total Control - The Hammer (Total Control/Fuse)
How I missed this LP earlier in the year I don't know. It's by that Melbourne band Total Control who have had tracks featured recently from their split LP which they share with Thee Oh Sees. This is a track from their impressive debut album released back in the summer.

10. Indoor Voices - Like Your Own (Self Released)
Taken from the album "Nevers" which is available now from the Indoor Voices bandcamp page on CD or download.

11. Johnny Foreigner - What Drummers Get (Alcopop)
Another track from the excellent new Johnny Foreigner album "Johnny Foreigner Vs Everything" which I think is the best collection of songs they have yet produced.

12. Veronica Falls - Misery (Bella Union)
Probably my favorite album at the moment is the debut by Veronica Falls who apparently I'm the last to discover as everybody else is already in love with them. Anyway this is a track from their self titled debut album which is available now on Bella Union.

1. The Fall - Nate Will Not Return (Cherry Red)

Another slice of greatness from the new Fall LP "Ersatz GB" which is available now on Cherry Red. This album does take a few listens to appreciate and will probably not go down as a Fall classic but is nevertheless a very good record.

2. U.S Girls - The Boy Is Mine (Kraak)
Taken from the album "U.S. Girls On Kraak" which odly enough is on Kraak Records. It's likely to be their last release for the label though because they've just signed to Fat Cat.

3. The Oh Sees - Dead Energy (Castle Face)
This is one of the Oh Sees tracks from the record the San Francisco band share with Total Control who had a track in last weeks Fodder. I've now got a copy of the Total Control LP "Henge Beat" which was released earlier in the year and it is pretty awesome and I'll try and remember to include a track next week.

4. VSP - Honey (AH Management)
VSP come from Turku, Finland and play what they describe as Nump which according to them is a form of traditional Finnish music although I've never heard of it before and probably never will again. This is a track from their debut album "The Ultimate Collection Vol 1" which will be available from 2nd December.

5. The Orb - Latchmere Allotments (Nocturnal Sunshine Remix) (Malicious Damage)
One of many fine moments from the new Orb album "C Batter C" which is a return to what the Orb do best with the help of occasional contributor Thomas Fehlmann. It comes as a CD package with an impressive 60 page book and DVD. Unfortunately I can't find any evidence of a vinyl release at the moment.

6. Cloud Nothings - No Future/No Past (Wichita)
You can tell a Steve Albini recording a mile off and as this one rolls into action the knob twiddling of the great producer becomes as evident as an orange stuck up your nose. The thing is it's a great sound, a huge sound and has worked well for the likes of The Wedding Present, Pixes, PJ Harvey and about six million more in the past. This time it's the turn of Ohio band Cloud Nothings to get the Albini treatment on their new album "Attack On Memory" which will be released on Wichita on 6th February.

7. Magick Orchids - Bad Acid (Self Released)
This is a track from a Vanity Projects compilation album called "Vanity Loves Company: Autumn/Winter 2011" which you can download free from Bandcamp.

8. My Bloody Valentine - Soon (Small Scales Collision Remix)
This is a track I've been meaning to put in for months but as is the norm kept forgetting. It's been around for quite a while now but I bet hardly anyone has heard it.

9. Pacific UV - Funny Girl (Self Released)
Taken from the "Weekends EP" which will be released on 31st January next year.

10. Monday Night Fever - Floating Around (Bad Panda)

Probably the best Fall set I've heard in ages. Certainly a polar opposite to the fiasco in Edinburgh recently. An on form Fall with the new songs sounding spectacular. Am I the only one to think that the current album "Ersatz GB" doesn't really do justice to the new set and many of them sound much better live.

1. Johnny Foreigner - If Im The Most Famous Boy You`ve Fucked, Then Honey, Yr In Trouble (Alcopop)
This is the first track on the splendid new Johnny Foreigner album "Johnny Foreigner Vs Everything" which was released just last week. If you buy the CD from the Alcopop shop and your quick you can still get it with the limited edition twenty page comic by Lewes Herriot. There was also a limited edition glow in the dark t-shirt but this sold out within the first twelve hours so well done to whoever bought those and I wish I had one.

2. Lone - Coreshine Voodoo (R&S)
Thius is one of six excellent tracks on a release called the "Echolocations EP" which I think has probably been kicking about for a few months.

3. Odonis Odonis - Blood Feast (Fat Cat)
Taken from the debut album from Canada's Odonis Odonis. "Hollandaze" is available now on Fat Cat.

4. Acid House Kings - Lost And Found (Labrador)
Taken from the current single "Heaven Knows I Miss Him Now" which is available now on Labrador Records of Sweden.

5. A Place To Bury Strangers - So Far Away (Dead Oceans)
This is the first taste of the new A Pace To Bury Strangers E.P. "Onwards To The Wall" which will be the first new release from the Brooklyn band in what seems like years but is probably about eighteen months. The new record will be released on 7th February on Dead Oceans records and will hopefully precede the follow up to the bands debut album "Exploding Head" released on Mute Records back in 2009.

6. Guilty Ghosts - Everlasting Evening (feat Sea Oleena) (Self Released)
This, for me is the stand out track on the new Guilty Ghosts album which can be downloaded for a price of your choice from their Bandcamp Page.

7. Tapage - Xyloplax (Tympanik Audio)
This is a track from the Dutch artists third album "Overgrown" which was issued this week on Tympanik Audio.

8. Purling Hiss - Sifting Hands (Self Released)
"Dizzy Polizzy" is a cassette only release, limited to only 100 copies and only available from gigs on the current Purling Hiss tour which is a bit of a shame really because there is some good stuff on here. The sound quality is questionable at times although whether that is the way it's meant to be or just a bad cassette is anyone's guess but I quite like the muddy, raw sound which is present on this tape. I don't know what it is about cassettes at the moment but there certainly seem to be plenty of them around. At this rate I'm going to have to buy a new deck to replace my rather decrepit old unit which has been kicking around since the days cassettes were one of the main formats on the high street. Still it seems to do the job.

9. Prurient - Time's Arrow (Hydra Head)
The title track from the new Prurient single which is available on twelve inch vinyl and cassette. They say there will be a CD version eventually but if I were them I wouldn't bother.

10. The Primitives - The Witch (Halloween Mix) (Elefant)
The first taste of the new Primitives album which will be released on Elefant early next year. This track was originally recorded by German psychedelic pop duo Adam and Eve in 1967.

11. Babes In Toyland - He's My Thing (Twin Tone)
Taken from the 1990 album "Spanking Machine"

12. Total Control - Nervous Harvest (Castle Face)
One of four tracks contributed to a split LP which the Melbourne band share with The Oh Sees. Only available on vinyl ,although there's sure to be a downloadable version knocking about somewhere. This is the first material I've heard from Total Control who released their debut album "Henge Beat" a couple of months ago on Iron Lung records. I've now bought a copy of that and look forward to hearing it because the four tracks on this LP are brill.

1. Asobi Seksu - Never Understand (Polyvinyl)

This is one of two tracks on the new Asobi Seksu single. As you will notice it's a cover version of The Jesus And Mary Chain classic and done very well in my opinion. The other track is a version of "Little House Of Savages" which was originally done by The Walkmen on their 2004 album "Bows and Arrows" oddly enough I prefer either of these two tracks to anything that was on the recent Asobi Seksu album "Fluorescence".

I can't get enough of this record at the moment. It's the new album by the legendary Half Man Half Biscuit "90 Bisodol (Crimond)" which is available now on Probe Plus.

5. The Fall - Greenway (Cherry Red)
This is the one we've all been waiting for. An annual event which never fails to send shivers down my spine. I am of course referring to the release of a new Fall album. This years work is entitled " Ersatz GB" and takes a bit more listening to than last years excellent "Our Future Your Clutter" which still turns up regularly in my house. I particularly care for this track which see's Mark do hi impression of a Darlek on the intro. Ersatz GB will be released on Cherry Red on 14th November.

6. Metamonto - H2NS (Ho Hum)
I'd love to tell you all about this four track EP but in time honored fashion I've lost the e-mail and have can't remember a thing about it. Sounds great though.

7. Ringo Deathstarr - Prisms (Club AC30)
This is a track from the new Ringo Deathstarr EP "Shadow" which is released on Club AC30 this week and is set to whet the appetite for the new album which will be released in February.

8. The Blanche Hudson Weekend - Different Again (Squirrel)
Probably the most played album in my house at the moment is that of The Blanche Hudson Weekend who have had singles featured on this site over the last couple of years. Only now though do we get the pleasure of their debut album and what a pleasure it is. I must have heard it twenty times now and still strange things happen in my trousers. The record is called "You Always Loved Violence" and is available now on Squirrel Records of Leeds.

9. The Joy Formidable - Cradle (Fang Island Remix) (Atlantic)
Taken from "The Big More EP" which will hopefully be the last release before the band return to the studio to work on some new stuff.

10. Wounded Knee - Whither Wither (Jerry Loves Records)
This is a track from a yellow cassette entitled "House Music" which is clearly the last thing it actually is. To celebrate the release of the yellow cassette Wounded Knee will be playing a show upstairs at Isobar in Edinburgh on 18th November. Tickets can be obtained from their Bandcamp Page where if you should buy one you will receive a download of a Wounded Knee show recorded in Glasgow back in February. Probably worth the ticket price just for that if you ask me!

11. Tiger Trap - Supercrush (K)
I just happened upon this record again earlier in the week. It's the a-side of a seven inch single released in 1993 and still sounds good.

I've seen The Fallen Spikes countless times in my hometown of |York both supporting and headlining and often considered that they are seriously underrated as I believe this three track EP proves. 9. Keith Hudson & The Soul Syndicate - Bad Things Dub (Pressure Sounds)
Taken from the album "Nuh Skin Up" which was originally released in 1979 on the Joint International label and re-issued on CD in 2007 with a few extra tracks and a much worse sleeve as you can see above. The original sleeve is plain white and not entirely dissimilar the The Fall's "Total's Turns" album from around the same time.

10. Xhin - Vent (Pfirter Remix) (Stroboscopic Artefacts)
This is superb. It's one of four tracks on the new Xhin EP "Cutlass" which precedes the new album "Sword" which I think should be on top of your Christmas list.

1. Ringo Deathstarr - Shadow (SPC ECO Remix) (Club AC30)
This is the SPC ECO remix of the title track from the new Ringo Deathstarr EP which features three new tracks plus a cover of Just You which originally appeared on the Twin Peaks soundtrack. The Shadow EP will be released on Club AC30 on 7th November. The band are currently finishing off their new album and if it's anywhere near as good as their last effort "Colour Trip" then a treat is to be had by all.

2. Weekend - Hazel (Slumberland)
This is one which has been sat in my inbox for ages. I love this track which comes from a five track EP entitled "Red" which was released last month on Slumberland Records.

3. Levellers 5 - Big Friday (Probe Plus)
I just stumbled across this one while sorting some old records out which had been discovered in a box in the back of a cupboard which must have been there since we moved into the house ten years ago. I had almost forgotten about Levellers 5. If memory serves (which makes the following statements almost certainly unreliable) they came from Liverpool and recorded three Peel Sessions the first one of which was a bit of a classic and I remember having it on cassette but what has become of that cassette? I think this was the bands debut single and preceded an album called "Springtime" which I have also found and played and enjoyed, especially the title track which is a bit of an epic and if I remember will feature in a future Fodder. Levellers 5 continued plying their trade for several years under the name Calvin Party. Perhaps they thought they might get confused with another (far less exciting) band.

4. Driphouse - In Peru (Spectrum Spools)

A track from Darren Ho's latest work "Spectrum 008" which is available now on Spectrum Tools.

5. Boom Bip - Pele (Lex)
This is a track from the new Boom Bip album "Zig Zaj" which I meant to put in last weeks Fodder but forgot.

6. Sic Alps - Can't You See (Drag City)
Taken from the Breadhead EP which was released back in August on Drag City.

7. Hammock - Sinking Inside Yourself (Hammock)
Taken from the new four track EP "Asleep In The Downlights" which will be available from next week in a whole range of colours. The vinyl will be available in Reddish Brown, Blue, Violet with Black, Fire Orange with Black and Clear with Black Swirl. Now it's not often you get a choice like that but be warned there are only 75 copies of each colour so you might want to pop over to their Bandcamp Page and sort yourself out with the flavor of your choice pronto!

Always nice to end a Fodder with some moments of beauty, nine of them to be exact but who's counting. This track is taken from the debut album by Georgia based duo Grant and Rachel Evans and if you like this track there are another six on here which are just as good. The album is called "Transcending Spheres" and comes in this wonderful sleeve which is part of a limited edition CD series called Circa. This is the fourth release in the series and as such is limited to just 300 copies.

1. Half Man Half Biscuit - Tommy Walsh's Eco House (Probe Plus)

The Biscuit are back three years since their last outing "CSI Ambleside". In fact they seem to have got into the habit of releasing a new record every three years. I'm looking forward to 2014's effort already, assuming of course that we have not all being consumed by giant badgers or hate consumed locusts by then.

This then is the Wirrel's finest twelfth album since they battered us all with their debut "Back In The DSS" in 1985. Well some of you anyway. I was only twelve years old at the time and at that stage hadn't had the opportunity to experience music with even the slightest hint of attitude so a couple of years I had some catching up to do. The new album "90 Bisodol (Crimond) was released last week on the seemingly eternal Probe Plus Records.

As usual the witty bastards only have a very scarce touring schedule and in fact only two gigs planned for any time before February.

2. Four Tet - Locked (Text)
This is a track from the new Four Tet twelve inch which is available on the bands own Text label now although I have been told that stocks may already be dwindling.

3. Tennis System - Arcane
An excellent track from the L.A. band's debut album "Teenagers " which will be released on 15th October.

4. Bubblegum Lemonade - Have You Seen Faith? (Demo)
At last a brand new track from the Glasgow popsters. Hopefully this will mean a third album is not a million miles away.

6. Darren Hayman - The Ships Piano (Fortuna Pop)
This is the title track from Darren Hayman's new album which will be released on Fortuna Pop next week.

The Ship's Piano is an album of subtle, drifting piano ballads written by Darren Hayman while he was recuperating from a fractured skull. In Darren's own words:

“In November 2009, I had this thing happen to me, where I ended up in hospital with a fractured skull. For a few months I felt constantly dizzy and was diagnosed with some deafness in one ear. Sharp, loud noises bothered me greatly. I was told to rest and do nothing; but who knows how to do that?
“Music always helps when I’m ill, so I started to make the simplest, quietest music to help me recuperate. I tried to make the music that I wanted to hear, which is perhaps what we should always do, but in this case there was a direct therapeutic need.
“I avoided any jagged edges. I kept imagining the sounds I wanted as round and smooth, like well-worn pebbles.
“Lyrically, I also found myself eschewing conceptual and metaphoric character-led songs. I started to write the simplest and most direct words in the first person, something I have avoided for a few years.
“If you are a songwriter and something bad happens to you, people say, “You can write a song about it at least.” They mean well, but the big events in life have to seep out gradually with me and not in urgent, confessional bursts. The songs on this record are pleas for calm. As I get older I find I prefer small, quiet things.
“All the songs were written on my ship’s piano. ‘Ship’s Piano’ is a colloquial term given to small-scale pianos that were used on boats. Mine was built in France in 1933 and folds away to resemble a sideboard. I wrote a song where I imagine its history. It’s called ‘The Ship’s Piano’.”

6. Kösmonaut - Monad (Self Released)

This is a track from one of two new releases by Texas based Patrick R. Park otherwise known as Kösmonaut. This track comes from a very tidy five track EP called "Emanations", in addition to this there is also a new album entitled "The Voyage Of Time" which according to the website has almost sold out on CD but to be honest I don't think this sort of music sounds particularly good on CD anyway. Vinyl is obviously the first choice but I would rather just have the digital files than the CD. I know that sounds a bit mad but it's just the way my tiny brain works. Anyway pop over to the Kosmonaut Bandcamp and have a gander (strange English slang meaning "would you like to take a look old boy?")

7. Deep Cut - Cruel Reminder (Club AC30)
Taken from the fantastic album "Disorientation" which is available now on Club AC30.
I just can't get enough of this track and in fact the whole album which has seen some hammer on the i-pod over the last week. I bet this lot sound great live.

8. We Were Promised Jetpacks - Medicine (Fatcat)
Taken from the new album "In The Pit Of The Stomach" which was released last week on Fatcat.

9. AFX - Quex-RD (?)
Interesting to see this one crop up again. It's a mysterious twelve inch single which AFX (Aphex Twin) share with the equally bonkers Autechre. It was originally issued as a white label in the early/mid 1990s as I recall. Not sure why it's been re-issued or indeed who is responsible for it but it does allow the chance to hear this fine track once more. This is actually a remix of St Etienne's "Like A Motorway" although if you didn't know that you would never realise.

10. Romantic States - Trapper (Self Released)
Taken from "A Shell Is Born" which is Romantic States debut full length which follows a string of singles and an EP all of which can be downloaded from the Romantic States Bandcamp thingy.

11. For Abel - Yorkshire (Flowers In The Dustbin)
A track from the new single which will be released on 5th November on Flowers In The Dustbin.

12. Depth Charge - Bounty Killer II (DC Recordings)
It turn's out that I somehow missed quite a lot of J. Saul Kane's work as Depth Charge and that is something I'm striving to correct. This clearly is Bounty Killer II which came after the mighty Bounty Killer which as well as being a classic twelve inch which everyone should own also appears on the "Nine Deadly Sins" album of 1995. There is also a Bounty Killer III which I'm chasing as we speak and will hopefully have in my hands by next week.

"Oaky (doting, in late summer)" is an alternate version of a song "Oaky (doting)"that appears on the album The Pass and Crossings, and also, in a few significant ways, an entirely new song. Developed over the course of two seasons of performing and writing, this song is a reflection on and reference to that most recent Pillars and Tongues full-length release, and also a representation of ongoing explorations, variations on themes and variations of contexts.

The track is being offered as a special free download single, released in coincidence withPillars and Tongues' September / October 2011 tour with A Hawk and a Hacksaw andDark Dark Dark. Although the track is only being offered in digital format, it is accompanied by a "b-side" which is entitled "Live Song" and which was recorded during a live performance in May 2011.

"Anything For Now is a small but loaded taste of Corduroi’s whimsical, intricate, and synthesized electro-pop. This six-track EP is a brew of manipulated vocals and chopped samples of an endless world of instruments, which have been mixed and stirred to produce arrangements on par with the very best electronic producers. "Crustacean" kicks things off with gorgeously chopped synth pads and a playful melody. “Like Gentle Giants” channels a lush dreamscape with an acoustic guitar that seems to morph into electric piano, minimal feel, and soft vocals. I would really like to see Honey live and if it was not for the fact that all of their gigs take place in their home town of Glasgow which is quite a distance from York I would be doing just that.

This is just awsome. It's the Braids side of a seven inch single which they share with Purity Ring whose contribution "Belispeak" is also fine. The record will be available from Fat Possum from 10th October.

8. Iowa - Complete Control (Self Released)
This is the first new material from the Melbourne band since last years "Lose Yourself" single which also featured in these pages. It's the first taste of Iowa's debut album which I for one look forward to with itchy feet.

9. Handbook - Been A While Since You Spoke (Bad Panda)
"Handbook is hip-hop producer from York, UK woking basically on instrumental beats with influences that include a long list like: Flying Lotus, Actress, Upsetters, Aphex Twin, Miles Davis, DJ Shadow, Madlib, Onra, Architeq, J Dilla, Jaco Pastorius, Weather Report, Teebs, Ackryte, Repeat Pattern, FREE THE ROBOTS.
Mixing a glassy wind chime with hearp plucking and some kind of flute tone, the York native creates a mystifying and serene track."

10. Oreaganomics - Blanket On The Edge Of Town
This is a track from what every man and his dog have been waiting for... an Oreaganomics album. It's called "Hand Turkey Pt1" and will be the first in a trilogy of records which according to the e-mail "focuses on the decent into yuppie-dom". I must admit I didn't think there were any yuppies left now. I thought they all set fire to themselves years ago. "Hand Turkey Pt 1" will apparently materialise sometime next month.

11. The Workhouse - The Whistler (Hungry Audio)
I must confess I thought The Workhouse had given up the ghost long ago but in time honoured fashion I am what is known as bloody wrong. This track comes from the former Oxford band's (they now ply their trade out of London) new album "The Coldroom Sessions" which was released last week on Hungry Audio.

12. The Would Be's - Damn Mistake (Decoy)
This is the third and final track from The Would Be's third single for Decoy Records "The Wonderful EP" which was issued in 1991 and only last month found it's way as far as my record collection. I'm still looking for the other two releases which were released some time after this, the titles of which escape me for the moment. There must be someone out there who owns these records and is prepared to at least send me some mp3's. Come on, you know you want to.

This is a track from a free digital sampler designed to portray the talents at the Rock U Fest which takes place in St Louis this month featuring forty-odd acts most of which are of the noisier variety but this is the track I keep coming back to, from the wonderfully monikered Buxom Space Fish. 3. Sadsic - Sailing For Flowers/Green Civic Lessons (Self Released)
A bit late on this one but never mind. This is a track (or two) from the debut album by Sadsic which has been around since March and can be downloaded for a price of your choice from Sadsic's Bandcamp site along with two more EP's which have been released since and will shortly be gracing my ipod.

4. Mario Gonzalez - Help Me I Am In Heaven (Self Released)
First of all what a brilliant sleeve and secondly but most importantly what a great noise. This track is part of a seven track mini album/EP called "Disgusting" which can be purchased in full for a mere $1 from HERE.

5. Jesper Lundager - Flourish (Self Released)
This is a track from what is my favorite album at the moment. I call it an album but at just over twenty minutes for all eight tracks it's hardly longer than an EP but you know what they say about size not been everything. Every track on "Dyeing Lilies Brighter Colours" is quite simply a work of beauty and I urge you to listen to this record at the first opportunity especially as you can buy it for whatever price you want to pay.

6. The Would Be's - Would Be Song (Decoy)
Another track from the Irish band's 1991 "Wonderful EP" which I have only just got a copy of.

7. The Twilight Sad - Kill It In The Morning (Fat Cat)
This is the first taster from The Twilight Sad's next album "No-One Can Ever Know" which will be released on Fat Cat next February. It will be preceded by a new single entitled "Sick" which will be released on seven inch vinyl and the usual digital formats on November 15th.

This is the latest free EP from Athens finest, Pacific UV. Apparently a new album is going to be ready early next year and I will certainly look forward to that.

"Yes, two of the songs are from the free monthly series, but both have been updated and improved. ("Lakes" has been made longer and creepier, while "The Archduke" has vocals added to it).

Of the three remaining tracks, one ("Ballerina") is a remix of a song to be included on our new album out in January 2012, and another is a remix of another LP track by ambient master mind Glowworm. The final song is a cover of the classic Smiths track "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want".

This set was recorded at Brighton's Concord 2 on 27th August as part of David Gedge's "At The Edge Of The Sea" festival which is now in it's third year.

The set consists of a pretty good mix but most importantly there are two brand new songs on here which will probably feature on the Leeds band's as yet untitled seventh album which is currently scheduled for release next March. Next year will also mark the twentieth anniversary of their third album, the Steve Albini produced "Seamonsters" and in the style of "George Best" and "Bizarro" they will be out on tour playing the whole thing. Let's hope we can get a recording of that as well!

1. Purling Hiss - Almost Washed My Hair (Permanent)

This is the first track on the debut album by the magnificent Purling Hiss. It was actually released some time ago but sold quickly and became pretty much impossible to find without resorting to bribery or committing firearms offences. Thankfully the nice people at Permanent Records have found a solution to this problem and have pressed up another three hundred copies which can be purchased directly from the Permanent website. This is the first track on the album in its full nine minute glory.

2. For Abel - On TV (Flowers In The Dustbin)
A couple of years ago I was banging on about this new band from Scotland called Nacional. They produced a couple of top singles and then vanished into the pits of time, or so I thought. As luck would have it they never went anywhere at all. They simply changed their name to For Abel and earlier this year released their debut album "Greater Inventions" which I have just purchased this very morning. For Abel will release a new single on November the fifth. It's a new version of "Yorkshire" which back in their Nacional days was their stand out track and featured on Mr Vincents "North Of The Border" playlist back in 2008 (three years later and still he ponders his next one). This track will be the b-side of the single which also features a bloody bangin' remix of "Yorkshire" which celebrates as the "JMX RMX" and needs to be heard.

9. The Would Be's - My Radio Sounds Different In The Dark (Decoy)
Released back in 1991 this is a track from the third EP by the Irish band and until last week I never had a copy of it. There were two more couple singles, "Show Off" issued on Danceline Records in 2003 and "Some Other Planet" on Wood Records in 2001. If anyone reading this has either of these records please get in touch as I doubt I'll rest easy until I've at least heard them.

10. Allo Darlin' - Wu Tang Clan (Self Released)
This is the b-side of the current Allo Darlin' single which is available as a very nice seven inch picture disc. There are only one thousand in existence so if you want one you will need to hurry over to Allo Darlin's Bandcamp Page where you will need to part with a mere four quid. This track was written by Darren Hayman and John Morrison back when they were plying their trade as The French and appeared on the bands only album "Local Information" which was released on Too Pure back in 2003.
Allo Darlin' will be playing at The Scala in London on 3rd November to celebrate fifteen years of the Fortuna Pop label.

That work of art you see above is the cover of the soon to be released new Fall album "Ersatz GB" which will be released on Cherry Red Records on 14th November. Apparently there will be a single to precede it but as always with The Fall info is hard to come by. To get us in the mood then this is a recording of the recent Fall performance at the Green Frog festival in Glasgow where they once again proved to be on top form and played no less than four new songs including "Laptop" which to my ears is simply stunning.

1. Shoot The Image - Loveless

We start this week with a track from the Toronto band's debut album "Cranes In The City" which may have been around for a month or so but as usual has only just got as far as me. The only thing which I find slightly riling about this album is the fact that it would sound even better if the production was a bit less polished. Still, you can't have everything.

2. Prurient - There Are Still Secrets (Hydra Head)
Taken from the album "Bermuda Drain" which is released this very week on Hydra Head.

3. I Break Horses - Wired (Bella Union)
I Break Horses are a Swedish duo consisting of Maria Linden and Fredrik Balk. For the last three years or so they have been recording bits and bats which have ultimately come together to become an item of untold beauty called "Hearts". It has nine tracks on it including the title track which was released as a twelve inch single last month and annoyingly I don't own a copy of it although I know it can be acquired through Bella Union for a measly £6.99 which is going to have to be paid because I'm not sure how much longer I can sustain life without hearing the Tom Rowlands remix.

4. Milk Maid - Dead Wrong (Fat Cat)
It's about time Manchester produced something new to shout about. Going back twenty odd years if your band was from Manchester (or surrounding area) then you were guaranteed to be splendid, although it has to be said a lot of the bands which got caught up in that particular scene were... how can I put this... less than brilliant and in some cases worse than a Eurovision nightmare (if you're American and don't know what Eurovision is then you have had a luck escape my friend. It's an annual competition see which country can produce the most embarrassing song and then vote for whichever other country is your best friend regardless as to how cringworthy their entry may have been and try to win the title of European Clown, or something like that.) but a lot of truly great music did come out of Manchester during that time. You're probably already familiar with Milk Maid as their debut album "Yukka", released a month or so ago has been mentioned in all the right places and is indeed a tremendous debut effort. Listening to records like this make me wish I could play some kind of instrument apart from the power tools I like to play with and record in the shed. It's only a matter of time before I cut my finger off and have a recording which includes a piecing high pitched scream followed by something like "oh bugger".

5. Trunks - Derby
Taken from the French band's new album "On The Roof" which will enter the world on 29th September. I think this is the same band which gave us the fantastic "Twist On The Fourth Chimes" sometime last year (although on further ivestigation it turns out it was actually 2006) which still occasionally pops up on my i-pod.

6. The Lovely Eggs - Fuck It (Cherryade)
Another track from the Lancashire bands superb "Cob Dominos" album which I expect to be riding high in a lot of the end of year lists.

7. Grouper - Water People (Yellowelectric)
This is a track from the new Grouper seven inch single which is available this week. Liz Harris (for it is she) really does have an additivity haunting voice.

This is a bit of a treat. It's the new single by Sheffield popsters Allo Darlin' who you might remember gave us a pretty special debut album not so long back. This is their first new material since then and you might deduce from the fact that Darren Hayman's face is on the front of this record that he has something to do with it. The other track on here is a version of "Wu Tang Clan" from when Darren Hayman and John Morrison were trading as The French. The whole thing is available from Allo Darlin's Bandcamp Page as both a download and also as picture vinyl which is limited to just one thousand copies.

12. Warm Digits - Weapons Destruction (Distraction)
This is a track from the debut album by Warm Digits who are a duo based in the north of England, Manchester and Newcastle to be exact. I have to say I particularly like the sleeve of this record, it puts me in mind of some old Spacemen 3 records which is no bad thing because on certain points on this record there are sounds which would feel perfectly at home on a Spacemen 3 record. So ten tracks of what the press release describes as Krautophonic Blizzard-Wave which sounds jolly exciting doesn't it?
"Keep Warm with the Warm Digits" is relesed on 5th September as double gatefold vinyl album which is limited to just five hundred copies and of course the very unlimited digital download. I think you'll be hearing more from this record in the not too distant future.

This is a particularly interesting EP which made it's way to me earlier this week. It' the first noise I've heard from Jason Magicks (is he really called Magicks?) and the six tracks on this EP leave me yearning for more. This is what the press release had to say...

"Magicks is creating music as one person, based on techniques Jason Magicks has learned as an audio engineer. Blending layers to create a more complex sound as a whole.

Mixing music with theatrics, Jason doesn’t adhere to the typical makeup of a band. With his solo project, Magicks, he does not want to sacrifice the musical layers. Instead, he combines electronic and DJ equipment with guitar, bass and a microphone to create atmospheric sounds.

Slightly improv/theme based, a Magicks set is unique from night to night."

5. The Joy Formidable - Whirring (Innerpartysystemremix) (WEA)
Very nice indeed. It's about time someone took hold of some of these Joy Formidable tracks and gave them a good kicking before they become classics as I'm fairly sure they will. This is the remains of "Whirring" after Innerpartysystem bumped into it in a dark alley one evening and decided to teach it a lesson. Also on this E.P. is a remix of "Austere" which has been given some treatment at the hands of The Naked And Famous and sounds a bit mental. Additionally the "Roarities EP" also contains "The Greatest Light Is The Greatest Shade, Llaw = Wall" and "A Heavy Abacus" all recorded live at KOKO in recent times.

6. Bumblebeez - Fat Sheriff (Bang Gang)
Taken from the "I'm A Cowboy EP" which has been knocking about for the last couple of months apparently. There is also now a remix EP available which should be pretty damn fine if this is anything to go by. Unsurprisingly the cowboy theme runs through the whole EP as does the rather entertaining voice you will have noticed on this track which sounds a bit like the voice which delivers a text should you send it to a landline.

7. The Haxan Cloak - The Fall (Aurora Borealis)
Taken from The Haxan Cloak's self titled debut album which is available now on Aurora Borealis.

8. The Fall - Barmy (Beggars Banquet)
Yes I know it's any excuse to play a Fall track but while we wait for a new album it's all I can do. This one comes from the classic "This Nations Saving Grace" album released back in nineteen eighty five.

9. Letting Up Despite Great Faults - Repeating Hearts (Heist Or Hit)
I feel like I'm missing out on something here. I was fortunate enough to receive this record last week. It's a new EP by Los Angeles band Letting Up Despite Great Faults and it is very nice indeed and in my ignorance I assumed it must be the debut record by the band, but no! It seems there was an album released back in 2009 as well as an EP from 2006 so now I will have to order those as well. This track however is the first track on the new EP which is called "Paper Crush" and contains five splendid works of magic. According to the band's website they are about to announce a string of dates in the UK so watch out for them. They will probably be timed to coincide with the release of the record at the end of September, by which time of course the football season will be well under way and life will feel normal again.

Very nice indeed. This is one of four pieces of majesty on Miles Whittaker's debut solo release the "Facets EP". As you will no doubt have detected from the monstrous piece above it's a bit good. As far as I'm aware (which isn't very far as a rule) the EP is available now on Manchester's super fine Modern Love label, but be warned there are only seven hundred copies in the whole wide world! I look forward to more vibrations from Mr Whittaker with vibrating bones.

This is an acoustic version of a track which appears on The Nature Set's current four track seven inch E.P. which is available now on Elefant Records of Madrid. I'm not normally too keen on acoustic versions and I adamantly believe that J. Mascis started going down the pan as soon as he decided to put acoustic tracks on Dinosaur Jr records. I do like this track though and will trot off and purchase the record immediately... well quite soon anyway, these boiled eggs aren't going to eat themselves.

This is a brand new track from Blackbird Blackbird which is the first new material I've heard since the impressive debut album "Summer Heart" which warmed my heart towards the end of last year.

This is certainly a record which has grown on me over the last week or so. It's an album by the seductivly named Pregnant called "Life Hard : I Try" and it really is a diverse bag of tunes. It was hard to decide which one would be best for this Fodder but I like the ending of this track so there it is. You will have to wait until September to get your hands on the full album but make a note now because you'll have to punish yourself severely if you miss this one. Yet another blistering goal from outside the area by the Mush boys!

7. Still Corners - Cuckoo (Sub Pop)
This is one side of a sparkling new seven inch single on the legendary Sub Pop label. I seem to have missed quite a lot of stuff by Still Corners and intend to put that to rights in the coming week. If that is I can find the time between complaining to anyone in earshot about my broken finger. The thing is until you can't operate your little finger you don't realise quite how much you use it.

8. Scumbag Philosopher - Sunshine Corporation (Words On Music)
Every so often a record comes around which has a big effect on your life and over the last week or so my life has been enlightened by the debut album from Norwich band Scumbag Philosopher. It seems like a very long time since we first heard the gut shaking "God Is Dead So I Listen To Radiohead", recently issued as a single and I must admit to thinking they would struggle to surpass that. I was however oh so very wrong because although "that" track is one of nine on the album the other eight are stupendously, tremendously brilliant and if you choose not to get yourself a copy of "It Means Nothing So It Means Nothing" because my mates dad is the bloke who decides whether people should be committed in this area and I'm sure he would be happy to send you to a place where you could heal.

10. Stereolab - Lo-Fi (Too Pure)
I was listening to this earlier in the week when I was trying to sort out some of my long forgotten ten inches which the cat had removed from the shelf and turned into a bed. This is one of four tracks on a ten inch which was released in 1992 on Too Pure.

2. Charles Albright - I Am The Counter Culture (Drop Out) (Permanent)
This is Permanent Records twenty sixth release and definitly one of their best. It's a seven inch single, limited to just 300 copies each one lovingly hand numbered and available now from the Permanent Records website for $5.99. This is actually the b-side... or to be more accurate the double a-side. The other track is called "Weight" and is also very good but not quite as spine crushingly loud as this track.

3. Trench Party - Bad Parenting (Self Released)
One of two new tracks by Jake Cook otherwise known as Trench Party. Both can be downloaded free from the Trench Party Bandcamp page from where you can also download a couple of older releases.

4. John Roman - War Drums (Plant)
This is a track from John Roman's debut release for Plant Music. It's called the "Sala E.P." and is more than worth a spin. If only some of the bars I occasionally frequent would play something like this instead of all the usual shit that seems to be played everywhere. Sorry I'm banging on a bit but due to a mixture of alcohol and careless cycling I've broken a finger and am rather grumpy. Baaa

5. Moonbell - Figurine (Self Released)
I may have featured this track before but it's well worth another listen. It's the title track on a four track E.P. by yet another San Francsco band who need more attention. The E.P. is available for a modest fee from their Bandcamp.

6. Grass Widow - Milo Minute (HLR)
This is the lead track on the new Grass Widow seven inch single which is going to be the first in a series of releases on HLR. The b-side contains two cover versions. "Time Keeps Time" originally recorded by Neo Boys and a version of Wire's "Mannequin".

7. Sandwell District - Grey Cut Out (Sandwell Version) (Sandwell District)
Taken from the album "Feed Forward Versions" which oddly enough is an album full of remixes of tracks from "Feed Forward" which was released earlier in the year.

8. Ringo Deathstarr - So High (Club AC30)
Taken from the superb album "Colour Trip" which is still all over my i-pod. You might have noticed the Ringo Deathstarr live recording further down the page which is also excellent. Their debut album "Sparkler" will be re-issued on Club AC30 in July. It was originally issued a couple of years ago in Japan and although it's well worth having it's not a patch on "Colour Trip".

9. Shirley Lee - Maidenhead (Missing Page)
This is a track from Shirley Lee's second solo album "Winter, Autumn, Summer, Spring" which is available now on Missing Page.

10. Male Bonding - Bones (Sub Pop)
"Bones" is our first taste of the second Male Bonding album "Endless Now" which will be released on 30th August on Sub Pop.

11. Sebadoh - Shit Soup (Sub Pop)
While we're on the subject of Sub Pop records may I draw your attention to the recently re-issued "Bakesale". It was originally released in 1994 and was the fifth Sebadoh album, in many peoples opinion their best work to date and it turned out probably their best work period. Anyway it has been re-vamped by Sub Pop as a forty track double album which considering the original housed fifteen tracks is some going. The first disc is the re-mastered album which apparently sounds better but I still prefer the original vinyl and the second disk is full of b-sides, E.P. tracks and rarities from the period which is all well and good but really the first fifteen tracks are all you need here.

This is just superb and may I give a massive "Cheers Fella" to the brilliant Big Crashing Beat blog who brought this recording into the world. Apart from being a great performance from Ringo Deathstar, a band I've being desperate to see since their second album "Colour Trip" fell into my lap a couple of months ago. I'm sure they will visit the UK eventually but until such a time this will just have to do. The quality of the recording is also remarkable and I just love the echo effect on the vocals. Perhaps we should campaign for a law that dictates all bands must use such an effect or have your guitarists hands cut off. The majority of the tracks on here are from "Colour Trip" which was released on Club AC30 in April and the remainder from "Sparkler" which was the first Ringo Deathstarr album originally released only in Japan but to be re-issued on 25th July on Club AC30. I have to admit that "Colour Trip" is far superior but you probably need both. Now stop reading this tripe and download the link.

1. Dananananaykroyd - Muscle Memory (Pizza College)

Excellent new single (I say new it's been around a few weeks) from the band with the most often mis-spelled name in history. It's the first single from the Glasgow band's new album "There Is A Way" which is also now available and currently sits in the rather huge pile of stuff to be listened to. In fact I might just stick it on tonight while Nix is workinmg and I'm trying not to drink my wine too fast.

2. Amon Tobin - Surge (16 Bit Remix) (Ninja Tune)

Make sure you play this nice and loud. It's the 16 Bit remix of the new Amon Tobin single which really is quite awesome. You might remember a while back I was raving on about a 16 Bit single which involved chainsaws and plenty of them. Well this remix also uses similar sounds. It's been said before that there simply aren't enough power tools in music these days. "Surge" will be released on Ninja Tune on 4th July...talking of which...

Yeah I know, just couldn't resist it.

4. The Spiracles - Fireflies (Saint Marie)
This is the radio edit of the title track from the new E.P. which was released last week. The Spiracles is a new project by Luis Rodriguez who also plies his trade with Resplandor who produced a teriffic debut album last year (or possibly the year before).

5. Necro Deathmort - Devastating Vector (Distraction Records)
Another release to hit the world on 4th July is the second album by Necro Deathmort. It's called "Music Of Bleak Origin" although as you can tell from this track it's more nasty than that. There are only going to be 1000 CD's made available and they are well worth tracking down, apart from the excellent noise it makes the sleeve folds out into a massive piece of art so dark it would create a vortex if stuck on your wall.

6. The Vickers - They Need To Dance (Flake)
Taken fro the album "Fine For Now" which was released here in the UK back in February but will be released in Japan next month on Flake Records.

7. Trash Talk - Thorns (Ghost Ramp)
This is the Trash Talk contribution to a split seven inch single which they share with Wavves. As far as I know there are only 500 copies pressed and I'm not sure how you can get hold of one as the Ghost Ramp website hasn't been updated since last month.

8. Magnum - Grooveworks (Nightshifters)
Ecxellent new track from Daniel Enrique aka Magnum. The "Grooveworks E.P." also features remixes by Panteros666, Lucid, Randomer and Hostage.

9. Honey - Summertone (Self Released)
This is probably the most played track on my i-pod at the moment. It's the lead track on the Glasgow band's debut E.P. "Taste It And See" which can be downloaded in full further down this page.

Two new tracks from Brooklyn resident Davey Jones AKA Lost Boy who has put out around three hundred songs and numerous CD-R's over the last eleven years. He will be touring the east coast of the USA and Canada with Twin Sister this summer.

3. Love Culture - Vicious (Self Released)
This is a track from an E.P. which was released back in January by Ohio band Love Culture. It's the bands second release and the CD version comes as a double pack which also contains their first E.P. "Aquamarine" but if digital is your bag you can download the "Drag E.P" from their Bandcamp page.

4. Crystal Swells - Patent Trolls (Self Released)
Another release from January which slipped through the net is a six track E.P. from Vancouver band Crystal Swells. It was, and probably still is available as a limited edition cassette which can be purchased from... wait for it... yep it's that Bandcamp thing again.

This really is superb. The album is called "The Year Of Hibernation" and is the debut full length by Trevor Powers or Youth Lagoon as he is coming to be known. I'm not sure what is actually happening with the album at the moment. It was scheduled to be released on 5th July on Juno Beach Records but for one reason or another Juno Beach have decided to quit. I'm sure Trevor will have something lined up because "The Year Of Hibernation" is a work of art and really does need to be released. I'll keep an eye and let you know of any developments.

8. Orange Blossom Flyover - Jangle The Keys Of The Kingdom (Hand Rolled Gold)
This is a track from a forthcoming vinyl release on Hand Rolled Gold which Orange Blossom Flyover will share with Gospels.

10. Graham Repuski - Funny Girls (Shorter Recordings)
This is actually the longest track on this CD. It's the new album by Graham Repulski. "Into Animal Together" will be released on 19th July on Shorter Recordings which is just as well as most tracks on here clock in at just over a minute. It's one of those records that you just have to keep listening to from start to finish because you're never quite sure what's going to happen next. What treats the next track might bring, or just an unhealthy addiction to Graham's rather disconcerting voice. He always sounds like he's just got home from a particularly satisfying session of mutilating small animals.

11. Astrobrite - Silvery And Starless (BLVD)
This is the first fruit from the new album "All The Stars Will Fall" which will be released on 1st July.

12. Waskerley Way - Wind Shear (Self Released)

I remember this gig well. It was a superb night in one of my favourite Fall periods. In fact it's probably the largest venue I've seen the band in. The Barbican in York has recently re-opened and started hosting bands again although the most exciting so far has been Morrissey, not that I've got anything against the quiff but I would much rather see more current artists in York's largest venue. This performance is fantastic and I still have my ticket stub kicking around somewhere in the house although the likelihood of ever seeing it again is slim.

By the way this recording should be listened to at excruciating volume.

This is one of my favourite records of the week. It's a seven inch single by Bad Banana which features four wonderful tracks of which this is the first. I'm not sure how easy it is to find a copy of this but it's well worth the effort.

2. Universe - Summer Stars (Self Released)
This is a new track from Universe which the band have kindly made available through their Bandcamp Page.

3. Seapony - Blue Star (Hardly Art)
This record has just about made my week. It's the new and to my knowledge first album by Seattle band Seapony who delighted us last year with their "Dreaming" single and now have a full album of treasures for us to fornicate over. It's called "Go With Me" and is available as of this week on Hardly Art Records.

4. Eels On Heels - Blank Skin (Self Released)
What a fantastic sound. This is the original version of the title track from the new E.P. which features remixes by Skeletonkids, We Have Band, Populous, Low Owl and Aaron. Gripping stuff.

5. Wet Hair - Echo Lady (De Stijl)
Taken from the album "In Vogue Spirit" which as you can see has a brilliant sleeve that looks even better after a bottle of wine. This is the first track on the album which for some reason I was't too keen on after the first listen but something made me pick it up again and it sounded like a different record. Yes the possibility exists that Nix has been playing tricks on me again, or maybe I'm just going a bit potty!

6. From Oceans To Autumn - The Flood (Silber)
This is a track from a new single by From Oceans To Autumn which has been made available by our good friends at Silber Records.

7. Tiny Birds - Seaside Town (In The Winter) (Self Released)
This is brilliant. Tiny Birds come from London and have created a work of art in the form of their debut release. "Hymns For The Careless" which has really cheered me up ttis week. I always get a bit moody at the end of the football season with the knowlege that I'm going to have to wait a couple of months before I can watch York City underachieve again. This record might just help me through. You can download the whole thing for free from their Bandcamp Page but for the princely sum of five english pounds you could be the proud owner of beautiful hand crafted fold out CD which features exclusive designs by Tim Lamm.

Excellent new single on the Beko Digital Singles label which releases a new single every week. This week it's the turn of Australian band Colours.

I've been looking forward to seeing The Lovely Eggs for ages and then last week they paid a visit to The Basement in York and guess what? That's right I was down in Peterborough doing some work stuff. Gutted doesn't quite cover it but as some sort of small consolation I have come by this recording of their recent performance at The Donkey in Leicester. The set is a good mix of stuff from last years "If You Were Fruit" album and their latest masterpiece "Cob Dominos" which regular visitors to this site will already be familiar with as one of the essential records of the year thus far.

The band released their new single "Fuck It" this week on Cherryade Records which is available as a seven inch single with new song "Band On Sand" on a b-side.

1. The Wave Pictures - Little Suprise (Moshi Moshi)

This is a track from the new Wave Pictures album "Beer In The Breakers" whic is available now on Moshi Moshi. It was recorded in just one day at Darren Hayman's house in Walthamstow. "Beer In The Breakers" is a real return to form for the London band and easily their best record since "Instant Coffee Baby".

2. Austyn Sullivan - A Waltz (To Wonder) (Self Released)
This is one of five tracks on an EP called "Recollections Become Phantoms" which can be downloaded on one of those name your price deals from the Austyn Sullivan Bandcamp Page.

3. The Soft Moon - Out Of Time (Captured Tracks)

This is a record which has been around for a while but I've only just heard it. It's another top release on Captured Tracks who owe me a t-shirt. I paid for it ages ago and am starting to fear it may have come to grief over the Atlantic. Anyway this is a track from the debut full length by The Soft Moon who is actually just one bloke called Vasquez who lives on the other side of the big wet thing in America.

4. Jesu - Sedatives (Caldo Verde)
Justin Broadrick (he of Napalm Death) is back with a new record under his less aggressive Jesu moniker. It's called Ascension and is quite possibly the best Jesu record yet. I know that's probably a daft thing to say because right now all over the country people will be rising up with pick axes and chainsaws desperate to find my house and show me the error of my opinions, oh wait, that's more Napalm Death fans really isn't it? Seriously though it is a good record and also the first release I have on Caldo Verde Records who have actually released quite a few records according to their website which also informs us that there will be a vinyl version released in due course.

5. The Primitives - Breakaway (Fortuna Pop)
This is The Primitives reading of Toni Basil's 1966 single "Breakaway". It's taken from their latest EP "Never Kill A Secret" which is availab;e now on Fortuna Pop.

6. Ringo Deathstarr - Day Dreamy (Club AC30)
I've read some reviews which have been less than red hot about the new Ringo Deathstar album ""Colour Trip" but the fact remains they are all wrong, this is a first rate album and should be owned by everybody. Then again I recently saw the new Kate Bush record get five stars by an apparently reputed journalist. He must have left his ears on the washing line that day. "Colour Trip" has recently appeared on vinyl so if you haven't bought it yet there's some nice plastic waiting for you.

7. Woodsman - Insects (Lefse Records)
I can't remember if this track has been up here before but even if it has it's well worth another listen. It's the first track on the current Woodsman album "Rare Forms" which has a brilliant sleeve which makes you fall over if you look at it after a couple of bottles of wine. Great fun!

8. Fairmont - Ununoctium (Border Community)
Taken from the "Velora E.P." which is available now on Border Community.

9. This Will Destroy You - Glass Realms (Suicide Squeeze)
Taken from what I'm fairly sure is the Texan bands third album "Tunnel Blanket" which was released last week on Suicide Squeeze.

10. Four Eyes - Back To Life (Puzzle Pieces)
This is the first track on a new seven inch single which is the first record released on Puzzle Pieces records who are based in Brooklyn. Their second release is by a band called Bad Banana and you will be able to sample a track from that in next weeks Fodder.

11. My Bloody Valentine - Soon (Creation)
What do I need to tell you about this track. Although I suppose the possibility exists that some of you might never have heard it. It is certainly one of the most important records in my life in that it changed the way I listen to music and together with the immortal "Loveless" album which followed it set a blueprint of what can be achieved with a bit of creativity and single mindedness about creating a good record rather than considering whether or not it will sell. "Loveless" of course did sell rather well and is still to this day considered by many to be one of the cornerstones of British music and that is something I can't argue with. Since then speculation has been rife about a new My Bloody Valentine album and the word is that it's still in the pipeline but I won't be betting my morgage on it. In fact I think I might be better if it doesn't happen because let's face it no matter what a new record sounds like it would be impossible in 2011 to create a record which would be considered as important as "Loveless".

12. The Lovely Eggs - People Are Twats (Cherryade Records)
Taken from the album Cob Dominos which I'm sure by now needs no introduction. Annoyingly the band play in my home town of York this week, on the very night when I will be in Peterborough. Now that's sods law in action!

The Fall - Berlin, Maria - 12th May 2011

It seems like a very long time since we heard anything from The (mighty) Fall so I'm sure you'll all be mighty relieved to learn that there will indeed be a new Fall album this year. The as yet untitled new record will be released later in the year on Cherry Red Records and I for one tremble with excitement at the very prospect.

This set was recorded the other night in Berlin at a venue called Maria Am Ostbahnhof which is sadly closing down.

Infinite thanks as always to the taper, Lord Hanno in this case without whom our lives would be far less interesting.

By the way there is a new track on here for which we don't have a title but may give some insight into the sound of the new record which apparently is quite heavy!

I was very sceptical about the whole Primitives reunion thing at first. I mean, quite often these things can be a bit of an embarrassment (no names mentioned) but having seen The Primitives twice now since their return and coupled with their apparent desire to record new material as demonstrated by their recent, and rather good "Never Kill A Secret" E.P. this comeback does everything you want and more. The slightly surprising thing though is that they just seem to be getting better and better as you will hear if you download this fine set. It was recorded in Birmingham just the other month and is quite simply sublime. In fact I think this is my favourite Primitives bootleg ever and that is some praise.

1. Everyone To The Anderson - Danzig High Flyer (Unlabel)
This is a track from the Brighton trio's debut album, the cunningly titled "The Man Born From Inside Of A Horse" which will be released on 13th June

2. The Glass Canoe - Broka (Self Released)
I've been meaning to include a track from this album in a Fodder for several weeks now but what with one thing and another it hasn't happened... until now. This is the first track on an album called "Chimera" which can be downloaded in full for everyone's favourite price from their Bandcamp page. or you can check it out further down this page.

3. Goto80 - Makedir (Self Released)
I do love this kind of thing. Goto80 is a Swedish Bloke who likes doing strange things to computers. His latest work "Cherry" is available now although I suspect you will have to go HERE to find a copy.

4. //Orangenoise - I Know Everything (Area Man Remix) (Self Released)
This is a track form yet another release you can find on Bandcamp. It's a remix of a track which originally appeared on the Karachi band's "Veracious E.P." which was released back in January and can be downloaded from... you guessed it!

5. The Field Mice - Triangle (Sarah)
A complete classic. It occurred to me that a lot of people will never have heard this record so in an effort to put things to rights here we go. It's the first track on the London bands nineteen ninety mini-album "Skywriting" which remains as far as I'm concerned the pinnacle of their powers.

6. Circle Traps - Bo! Symbal (Opit Records)
This is one of five tracks on an E.P. recently released on Opit Records.

7. Prurient - Many Jewels Surround The Crown (The District) (Hydra Head Records)
New single by Prurient. It's available as a seven inch and limited to just five hundred copies on clear vinyl.

8. Phon.o - IL62 (50 Weapons)
This is one side of a split ten inch single featuring this treat on one side and a new track by Anstam on the other. Superb stuff.

9. Crystal Stilts - Shake The Shackles (Fortuna Pop)
Taken from the Brooklyn bands excellent new album "In Love With Oblivion" which is available now on Fortuna Pop.

10. Golden Glow - On My Own (Mush)
Golden Glow is the brainchild of Manchester based artist Pierre Hall and is about to unleash his debut album on an unsuspecting world. "Tender Is The Night" is the name of the beast which will be released on Mush Records on 21st June. All the tracks on here were recorded on Pierre's four track which gives them a raw and honest sound which I love. I would seriously question the mental state of anyone who didn't like this this album.

11. Dylan Ettinger - Lion Of Judah (Not Not Fun)
I'd like to say this is a new single from Dylan Ettinger but the fact of the matter is it has already sold out. It was issued last month on Not Not Fun with a run of 360 seven inch singles. Well at least you can hear it here!

12. Quiet Lights - Simple Mechanics (Old Flame)
This is a track from the new Quiet Lights E.P. "The Big Fire" which will be released on Old Flame Records on 21st June.

Inspiral Carpets - Birmingham 1989

This is great. A good recording of The Carpets at the peak of their powers. I only ever got to see them once, somewhere in Leeds. I think it was probably at the university in 1990 and they were tremendous that night. This is a slightly earlier recording and demonstrates perfectly why they were on the cusp of a deal with Mute Records and a place on the cover of all the music papers worth reading. Most of the tracks on this recording appeared the following year on their debut album "Life" which marked the end of the bands early period and included the brilliant "Sun Don't Shine" which is sadly missing from this set. If you want to hear more early Carpets their 1987 demo tape is still active HERE. I have a feeling Mr Vincent will enjoy this set.

No Joy, Live on KEXP, 6th May 2011

As I'm sure you're aware No Joy have already given us one of the most blistering albums of the year in the shape of their spine shaking monster "Ghost Blonde"a dose of which my ears still scream out for on a daily basis. So then this is the encore if you like. One of those promotional things bands do when they go on a radio station and play a few tracks. Often these events are ruined by cringe worthy DJ's talking out of their rear ends but on this occasion the presenter hardly says anything which is actually a bit of a shame because she has a rather cute voice. Anyway the set No Joy perform is pretty excellent consisting of versions of three tracks from "Ghost Blonde" and another entitled "He Cried". The band are currently on tour with Vivian Girls (I have a recording of one of their shows as well) and if they come anywhere near you then you must pay homage.

The Whatevers - City Lights Fade

This is the latest free single from the wonderful February Records and what a treat it is. It's the first material I've heard from Leeds band The Whatevers but I'm hoping this will be just the beginning. It wouldn't hurt them to drive twenty miles up the road to York to play a couple of gigs either. This is what the February Records website has to say about them.

"The Whatevers are a pop band from Leeds in the north of England. Mike writes the songs and Kate sings them. Al plays bass guitar.

Mike and Kate met at school. Kate had shaved her head to shock the locals. Mike had just split up with the only other indie punk girl in their small town, so it was natural they would become boyfriend and girlfriend. Kate would buy the NME and Mike would buy the Melody Maker and they would swap halfway through the week and cut the pictures out and practice interview techniques for the day they formed a famous indie band. Mike was in a band called Sparkling Tarts and they played at the local youth club with Kate’s band. After they had broken each others heart for about 15 years, Mike finally had enough songs and they formed The Whatevers. Al was one of their biggest fans, so they asked him to join the band.

The Whatevers sing mainly about their relationship history, radical leftist politics, not being able to get out of bed and conversations about sex that they have had at bus stops.

“City Lights Fade” is a picture-perfect example of lo-fi boy/girl bedroom pop. Jangling guitars, charming vocals and irreverent lyrics pervade these five songs. The band channels another boy/girl group, Eux Autres, for their cover of “Anne Boleyn.”"

1. Mamuthones - The Call (Boring Machines)
This album has been around since the March but I've only just got to hear it. It's a self titled release by Mamuthones and nothing less than a torrent of sonic bliss.

2. Smug Brothers - Company Man (Self Released)
This track comes from a delightful record called "Fortune Rumors" which contains no less than eighteen tracks most of which are relatively brief but certainly very good. For some reason it reminds me of the debut Teenage Fanclub album "A Catholic Education" which entertained us back in 1990 which is actually quite scary because some of you reading this rubbish may not have even been nearly ready to be conceived then. 3. Should - Slumberland (Words On Music)
This is a record I've been waiting for for ages. You might remember I featured a couple of tracks from a sampler a couple of months ago and now I finally have the full album which I can only really describe as the most beautiful thing I've heard this year. The record is called "Like A Fire Without Sound" and is available now on the Words On Music label. It should be remembered that it's been thirteen years since Should last released a record and to be perfectly honest I can't remember what their nineteen ninety eight album "Feed Like Fishes" actually sounded like but I have a copy somewhere so I'll check it out while I'm watching the football this afternoon. You will certainly be hearing more from this record though.

4. Fabio Orsi - Loipe 5 (Boring Machines)
Fabio Orsi is an Italian who now lives in Berlin. This is a track from his first release on Boring Machines "Wo Ist Behle" which is available now from the Boring Machines shop.

5. Havah - Until You Find Out (Self Released)
It's not everyday you come across a cover version of a Ned's Atomic Dustbin track but this is one. It's from an album which was released last October called "Adriatic Sea No Surf" which can be downloaded for everyone's favourite price from the Havah (not sure if they prefer their name in capital letters, I suspect they do) Bandcamp Page.

6. The Tinklers - Don't Put Your Finger In The Fan (Shimmy Disc)
Some wise advice from the Baltimore band's 1990 debut album "Casserole".

7. Bibio - Willenhall (Warp)
This is the other side of that rather fine split twelve inch which features Clark on the reverse. The record was released on 16th April in celebration of Record Store day and although I promised myself not to mention the sleeve again, it is bloody gorgeous.

8. Los Campesinos - Light Leaves, Light Sees (Heat Rash)
This is a track from the seven inch single you will receive if you subscribe to the Los Campesinos quarterly zine "Heat Rash". The first issue has just been released and as well as a superb publication you also become the custodian of a seven inch single which featured two brand new, never heard before tracks and this one I think is particularly good. 9. Bleed Stone - WAV 3 (Self Released)
This track comes from a seven track E.P. which has been made available through the bands Bandcamp Page. I must admit I'm sorely tempted to post the whole thing here because it really is a record I think you should listen to at least once in your life, or perhaps this coffee's having a bit of a strange effect on me today.

10. Penis Geyser - Penis Geyser Side (Solar Funeral/SPHC)
This is the Penis Geyser contribution to the split seven inch which they share with Lotus Fucker. I was told it had sold out but it appears to still be in stock HERE. You better get a move on though!

11. Djedjotronik - Bugle (Original Mix) (BNR Trax)
Boyz Noize label "Trax" is rapidly becoming my favourite record label of the year. From nowhere they have come, storming over the hills with sack loads of sounds to make your ears proud.

12. Ganglians - Jungle (Souterrain Transmissions)
This is a track from the new Ganglians album "Still Living" which will be released on 23rd August on Souterrain Transmissions in Europe and Lefse Records in the USA.
