Pod Fodder (Volume Sixty Three)

1. The Century - Heartbreak (
Keepreal Creative Label)
This is a track from the latest Keepreal compilation "Keepreal vol 2" which can be downloaded in full here.

2. Sleep In - Skin (Enemies List)
Taken from the album "Pyramid" which is the work of an Australian bloke called Hamish Duncan who says, This is my new album, and it’s called Pyramid. Recorded in a bedroom with a microphone, two guitars and Ableton Live between June and August 2009. Vocals are present, as are samples, and it will probably remind you of artists such as Atlas Sound. It is probably the best work I can do at this point in time, and I’m pretty proud of it, so thank you for checking it out. I hope you like it."

3. Chariots Of Tuna - A New Beginning (Tweefort)
Chariots Of Tuna are a quartet from New York. This track is taken from the bands current single "I'm So Good At Shining" the other tracks from which can be downloaded for free from theTweefort Records website.

4. Apteka - Cicada Song (Self Released)
This track is taken from the current Apteka tour E.P. which is quite simply brilliant and it's well worth going to see them just to buy one of these. Apparently there is a new 10" E.P. in the pipeline and the bands debut album to look forward to later in the year. Apteka will be appearing at SXSW but then again you could say that about anyone really.

5. The Electric Pop Group - Out Of Sight (Matinee)
Another track from the best album of the year thus far. "Seconds" is easily as good as last years classic debut from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart but you can bet your fingernails that it won't get half as much coverage which is a great shame. I really would like to see this lot come over to our shores for a few dates this year.

Product Details 6. A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Nitetime Rainbows (Mis Ojos Discos)
A Sunny Day In Glasgow return on 2nd March with a new E.P. "Nitetime Rainbows" the title track on which is remixed from last years impressive "Ashes Grammer" album. It will be released on two formats. You could purchase the digital download if you were so inclined but the sensible money will be spent on the clear vinyl 12" which will be limited to 1000 copies. You get four tracks on the a-side (Nitetime Rainbows, Daytime Rainbows, So Bloody So Tight, Piano Lessons) and on the b-side there are three different mixes of the title track. And all for $12 from the Mis Ojos Discos shop.

7. Errors - Bridge Or Cloud (The Twilight Sad Remix) (MP3)

8. Harlem - Friendly Ghost (Matador)
Another track from the new album "Hippies" which will be released through Matador on 6th April.

9. Hot Club De Paris - Extra Time Then Sudden Death (May 68 Remix)

Product Details 10. Eluvium - Cease To Know (Temporary Residence)
This track is the last track on the current Eluvium album which will be released through Temporary Residence on 23rd February.

Pod Fodder (Volume Sixty Two)

Cover Image 1. Ceremony - Someday (Killer Pimp)
This track is taken from the new Ceremony 7" which is limited to just 500 copies and will be released through Killer Pimp on 26th January. Ceremony will soon unleash their new album "Rocket Fire" on the world. My eyes have shrivelled up with exitement.

2. Sunburned Hand Of The Man - Lost At Sea (Ecstatic Peace)
This track comes from what is probably the most played record in my house at the moment. It's the second album from Sunburned Hand Of The Man who have anywhere from three to twelve band members and come from somewhere over the Atlantic. As you have probably realised, I know absolutely bugger all about them except this is their second album it's called "A LP" and is better than a fish finger sandwich! Now that's saying something.

3. Koolaid Electric Company - Show Me The Sun (Self Released)
Taken from the "Feel Our Noise And Adore Us" EP

Product Details 4. Four Tet - Circling (Domino)
I never have been the biggest fan of Four Tet in the past but their recent stuff really has been top of the league. This track is taken from the new album "Their Is Love In You".

5. Blonde Louis - 100 Miles (Promo)
This is one of the tracks on a two track sampler for their new "100 Miles EP". I can't tell you anything about the band at all. Even their Myspace is a bit vague. They make a decent noise though and at the end of the day what more can you ask for.

4th February - Norwich, B2
6th February - Letchworth Garden City, Plinston Hall
16th February - Nottingham, Bodega
17th February - Southampton, Unit
18th February - London, Borderline
20th February - Brighton, Audio
21st February - Birmingham, Academy 3

6. Women's Basketball - Hold Me, Fuckers (Tweefort)
Women's Basketball isn't what you'd call a "real" band. It consists solely of a bloke called Tyler Trudeau who plays everything. The album "An Octopus, But Like, An Octopus With Massive Wings And Junk" is released this month through Tweefort and is guaranteed to put a smile on even the most miserable of creatures.

Product Details 7. Hadouken! - Evil (Surface Noise)
Hadouken! finally return with the follow up to their 2008 debut "Music For An Accelerated Generation" and to be fair if you liked that record then you'll probably like this one as well. No great leap forward, pretty much more of the same. The album is called "Music For The Masses" and is released through the bands own Surface Noise label (which is actually an imprint of EMI bur I won't mention that!) The band will be making an in-store appearance at a record store near you soon before they embark on a "proper" tour, details of which you can find on theirMyspace page.

8. The Number Eight - There Are No Knobs That Should Not Be All The Way Up (Self Released)
Taken from the Michigan band's "Heavy EP".

9. Illness - Bane Face (Self Released)
Illness are a new band from Brighton who have just recorded their first EP which will be released sometime in the spring and on the evidence of this track it will be a record which needs to be owned.

10. The Electric Pop Group - The Way It Used To Do (Matinee)
If your after a great indiepop album then this is the record for you. The Electric Pop Group have just released their debut album for Matinee and to call it a treat is understating the case. Ten sparkling pop songs which are guaranteed to cheer up even the most miserable buggers in this world. The album is called "Seconds" and is technically the bands second album. The first was a self released CD which the band issued in 2006.

Pod Fodder (Volume Sixty One)

So 2010 is here and has got off to a blinding start with great albums from the liokes of Los Campesinos, Good Shoes and Harlem to name but three. Coincidentally there are tracks from all three of those records in this weeks Fodder (bet you didn't see that coming).

1. CNC - Magenta Ants (Draw)
This is a track from an album which has been sitting in my inbox for a couple of weeks now. How I wish I had got round to it earlier, it's quite superb. Unfortunately I can't tell you a great deal about it. The album is called "No Mood" and is been distributed through Draw Records who's website is all in Polish. Well worth tracking down though.

Breakage Featuring Newham Generals & David Rodigan - Hard 2. Breakage - Hard (Caspa & The Others 'The Police Take Over' Remix) (Digital Soundboy)

Filthy Little Angels 3. The Lovely Eggs - Devil In Me (Filthy Little Angels)
This track comes from the compilation "Five Years Of Filth, Music Versus Money" which as you may have correctly guessed is a celebration of some of the wonderful sounds which have been unfurled by the Filthy Little Angels label over the last five years or so. There is actually quite a few tunes I don't remember on here and I would urge you, if you only do one thing today to pop over to www.filthylittleangels.com and download it for yourself. Oh did I mention it's free!

Malory - Pearl Diver 4. Malory - The Signs (Club AC30)
This track come s from the new Malory album "Pearl Diver" which will be released through Club AC30) on 11th January.

cd054 sleeve 5. Northern Portrait - When Goodness Falls (Matinee)
I had almost forgotten about Northern Portrait. They released a couple of good EP's back in 2008 and then fell from the face of the earth. Now in 2010 they return with their debut album "Criminal Art Lovers" which has a picture of my house on the sleeve... actually I just made that last bit up but it is a quality record and sets the bar for the rest of the year which is already shaping up well.

Romance Is Boring 6. Los Campesinos - I Warned You Do Not Make An Enemy Of Me (Wichita)
From the new album "Romance Is Boring" which has really grown on me over the last week. An early contender for album of the year? Probably not because the new Fall album is just around the corner, nevertheless this is well worth passing through the turnstiles for. Los Campesinos are about to set out across the UK in search of young and unguarded flesh and will be calling at...

11th February - Wrexham, Central Station
12th February - Liverpool, EVOL @ O2
13th February - York, Fibbers
15th February - Aberdeen, Tunnels
16th February - Dundee, Dog House
17th February - Edinburgh, Bongo
18th February - Derby, The Venue
19th February - Leicester, The Musician
21st February - Cambridge, Junction
22nd February - Norwich, Arts Centre

27th February - Bristol, Thelka
1st March - Birmingham, The Rainbow
2nd March - Northampton, Roadmender
3rd March - Reading, Plug & Play
4th March - Kingston, Banquet New Slang

Product Details 7. Dorias Barraca - The Only Touch (Club AC30)
Club AC30 swing back into action this month with two great releases. One is the new Malory album, a track from which is also on this fodder the other is an EP by Dorias Baracca for whom this is their debut release. It's called the "Handsome Melting Point EP" and will be available from 18th January. Quality stuff, sound great in a snowstorm!

Product Details 8. Good Shoes - I Know (Brille)
Good Shoes return with their second album "No Hope No Future" on 25th January. I wasn't sure if they would be able to follow up their 2007 debut "Think Before You Speak" but they have allayed all my fears and produced an album which boots it into the gutter and calls it a tramp.

9. Harlem - Someday Soon (Matador)
This is the first track on the Austin bands debut album "Hippies" and if the first few lines of this song doesn't make you smile I recommend you seek immediate medical advice. "Hippies" will be released through Matador on 6th April.

10. Speak & The Spells - She's Dead (Robot Elephant)
"She's Dead" is the new and possibly debut single from London's Speak & The Spells. It will be released on 8th February as a limited edition 7" which will cost you a mere fiver to your door look very nice on your turntable.

20th January - London, Catch
27th January - London, The Old Blue Last

Pod Fodder (Volume Sixty)

Backdrop 1. The Fall - Hot Cake (Part 2) (Action)
This is the second track on the current Fall single. I wish the new album would get a move on. I think I'll be bald by the time it gets here!

2. Inbirdseye - Moral Crusaders (Self Released)
Taken from the Indianapolis bands new EP "Speak Easy".

3. Eat More Cake Feat Alex Griffiths - Red Sky (Avatars Remix)
This is a remix of the first single from Eat More Cakes debut album "Climb The Ladder".

4. Nate Allen - Don't Let This Smile Fool You (Self Released)
This track comes from one of the best cd's to brighten my doormat in ages. It contains two album, one by Nate Allen and one by Destroy Nate Allen which is basically Nate with his missus. Superb stuff it has to be said and I think you'll be hearing a lot more from Nate in these Fodders in the future. The Portland, Oregon duo are on tour in the states until next year which obviously isn't that far away but still sounds quite good. You can get you hand on a copy of this wonderful item simply by going HERE and it could be the best nine dollars you ever spend.

5. Peaking Lights - Boy & The Rabbit Band (Night People)
This is probably my favourite track on the Madison bands debut album "Imaginary Falcons" which is a real treat. I suppose you might put this in the experimental category which is a genre I've never really understood. It seems any band with some kind of ramshackle or anti music approach are called experimental but people have been doing it for years so surely it's past it's experimental stage now. Personally I don't really get genres anyway and I think people should stop using them because at the end of the day a record is either good, bad or indifferent and this LP certainly falls in the good category.

6. The Joy Formidable - My Beerdrunk Soul Is Sadder Than A Hundred Dead Christmas Trees (Self Released)
Probably the best Christmas record in years. Certainly the best Christmas song title... ever, probably. If you know better then let me know. This is basically a freebie from the band who have given me more pleasure than most in 2009. If you pop over to their myspace page you can view a rather good video for this track which will surely go down as a Christmas classic and will be brought out every year in place of Noddy and Richards who let's face it make you want to set light to your tree. The band will embark on a UK tour in march which will hopefully coincide with a new album.

Venice 7. Windy & Carl - Whisper (Icon)
Bit of an oldie this but what the hell. It's taken from windy & Carl's 1996 album "Drawing Of Sound" and is the perfect soundtrack for a snowstorm.

Romance Is Boring 8. Los Campesinos - Straight In At 101 (Wichita)
It seems like a very long time since we last had a record from Los Campesinos. This track is taken from their new album "Romance Is Boring" which will be released on 1st February through the rather fine Wichita Records. The Cardiff ensemble will be hitting the road in February to support the record including a date in York which I feel will need to be attended. By the way if you do go to a gig at Fibbers in York stay away from the Newcastle Brown Ale, it's for quid a bottle!

11th February - Wrexham, Central Station
12th February - Liverpool, EVOL@o2
13th February - York, Fibbers
15th February - Aberdeen, Tunnels
16th February - Dundee, Dog House
17th February - Edinburgh, Bongo
18th February - Derby, The Venue
19th February - Leicester, The Musician
21st February - Cambridge, Junction
22nd February - Norwich, Arts Centre
23rd February - Brighton, Audio
24th February - Portsmouth, Wedgewood Rooms
25th February - London, KOKO
26th February - Falmouth, Princess Pavilion
27th February - Bristol, Thelka
1st March - Birmingham, The Rainbow
2nd March - Northampton, Roadmender
3rd March - Reading, Plug & Play
4th March - Kingston, Banquet New Slang

9. Letters - K Is For Killing Spree (An Ode To) (Smalltown America)
Taken from the "And So I Watch You From Afar" EP

10.. These New Puritans - We Want War (Angular)
I'm really not sure what to make of this, which probably means it's brilliant. Not what you would expect These New Puritans to sound like which obviously is a good thing. I mean, how many records can you name which feature six feet high Japanese Taiko drums. It's going to be released on 11th January as an embossed 10" and will be followed shortly by the bands second album "Hidden".

25th January - London, Bush Hall
1st February - Brighton, Audio
2nd February - Birmingham, Hare & Hounds
3rd February - Manchester, Deaf Institute

Pod Fodder (Volume Fifty Nine)

A superb selection this week if I do say so myself. I mean how could it be anything else when we have new tracks from The Fall and The pains Of Being Pure At Heart. You now have the choice of downloading from the link below or stream at your leisure by clicking on fat Scooter the cat on the left hand side of this page.
Enjoy...

1. The Isolation - Dancing Away (All Heroes Are Dead)
This is the track I keep coming back to from the Swedish bands self titles debut ep.

2. Abner Jay - Cocaine (Mississippi Records)
This record is superb. If you have never heard Abner Jay then you need to hear this album. The original "Brandie Records" recordings are either impossible to find or would require mortgage to secure if you did. This then is a pretty important collection. As far as I'm aware it's only available on vinyl which to be honest is the only way to listen to this kind of thing anyway. I think you can still get the "One Man Band" cd from Amazon but this is the one you need. It's called "The True Story Of Abner Jay" and you will certainly hear more from this record in future Fodders.

3. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Say No To Love (Live)
A new song from the band who can do no wrong. 2009 has been the year of The Pains and rightly so. They have delivered us one of the best debut albums of recent years and are very impressive live as can be demonstrated elsewhere on this site. This is a live version of a new track which may or may not appear on the next album which hopefully won't be too far away.

4. Elisa Luu - D G (Ipologica)
Taken from an ep which appears to be called "IPO//13" which of course is also its catalogue number.

5. Miss Halliwell - Let's Do Business (Shabby)
Fantastic new single from Miss Halliwell. You can download it from www.shabbyrecords.co.uk along with a single buy Hans Gruber.

6. Brakes - Cease & Desist (Fat Cat)
Another track from the current live album "Rock Is Dodelijk".

7. The Ravonettes - The Chosen One (Vice)
I'm loving this track at the moment. Not entirely sure if it's just some kind of bonus track or a new single but whatever it is it sounds bloody good on my ipod.

14th December - Manchester, Ruby Lounge
15th December - Glasgow, ABC2
16th December - Newcastle, Academy 2
17th December - Birmingham, Hare & Hounds
18th December - London, Islington Academy

Backdrop 8. The Fall - Slippy Floor (Mark Mix) (Action)
And just when you thought 2009 was going to be one of those rare, baron years which have to be survived without any new stuff from The Fall a new single pops it's head up and instantly the world is transformed into a beautiful place. It's a three track affair which also features "Hot Cake 2" which is good and a live version of "Strangetown". If you want one of these messianic items you will need to pop over to the Action Records site where you will be able to find salvation.

Aarktica: In Sea"> 9. Aarktika - Hollow Earth Theory (Silber)
Taken from the excellent new album "In Sea".

10. Red Cortez - Fell On The Floor (Self Released)
This track is taken from the California band's current "Hands To The Wall" ep. The band are currently on tour in the U.S. with The Airborne Toxic Event.

11. Grouper - Pale Through (Roots Strata)
This track is taken from a seven inch single which Grouper share with Xela called "Tsuki No Seika Volume One". It's limited to 300 copies which are available by subscription only and is intended to be the first in a set of four records which will form a boxed set.

12. Gardeners Question Time - I Saw God (mp3)
This mp3 appeared in my inbox a few days ago. It's by the wonderfully named Gardeners Question Time. Unfortunately their myspace page doesn't give up any secrets so all I can tell you is they come from somewhere in the UK and this track is mint!

Belly Of The Lion 13. Ola Podrida - Donkey (Western Vinyl)
Taken from the new album "Belly Of The Lion".

Glider 14. My Bloody Valentine - Off Your Face (Creation)
Taken from the 1990 "Glider" ep.

15. Daniel Land & The Modern Painters - Off Your Face Again (Saint Cecilia)
This track comes from the debut album by Daniel Land & The Modern Painters "Love Songs For The Chemical Generation" which was released a couple of weeks ago on Saint Cecilia. Superb stuff.

19th December - Edinburgh, The Caves

Thursday, November 19, 2009

The Flatmates - London, ULU 28th October 1988 (re-post)

Great gig this. Slightly bad tempered due to what can only be described as a tricky audience and the sound could be a bit better but then is was twenty years ago when tape recorders were massive and you had to sneak them into gigs down the front of your pants. Despite everything this is one of my favorite bootlegs ever.

The Fall - 2 Sets

Right then, it's been at least a couple of weeks since we heard anything from The Fall which is clearly too long so to put that right here are two recent sets. The first was recorded at Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow on 13th November and the second set at Manchester, Moho three days earlier. Superb stuff all round and as usual a massive debt of gratitude is owed to those nice people who hide microphones around their genitalia.

Pod Fodder (Volume Fifty Eight)

Another great selection if I do say so myself. The new Animal Collective single is particularly good and should make your world a brighter place.
If you don't fancy downloading the whole thing you can now stream the playlist from www.mixcloud.com/burningworld or by clicking on the picture of Scooter the cat on the right. Unfortunately I had to remove the Pixies track from the stream because the file size was too big and something had to go.

Brakes - Rock Is Dodelijk 1. Brakes - Porcupine Or Pineapple (Fat Cat)
I must admit I'm quite into Brakes at the moment. This track somes from the Brighton band's new live album "Rock Id Dodelijk" which was recorded between two shows, Brighton August 2008) and Cologne (May 2009) and, it has to be said sounds pretty damn fantastic.
Brakes blasted onto what I tentatively call "the scene" last year with the release of their impressive debut album "Touchdown" and have nearly made me crash my car on two occasions since then. They have just released a new single "Why Tell The Truth/Worry About It Later" also through Fat Cat and if you downloaded last weeks Fodder you will already have heard a track from it.

12th November - Leeds, The Well
2. Sloth Bear - Don't Taunt A Tiger (Rack & Ruin)
New single from Sloth Bear. I'm looking forward to hearing the new album "Qids" which will be released shortly.

Electrojuice: Solrock 3. Electrojuice - Panpan (VUF)
Taken from the Danish duo's debut album "Solrok" which apparently is named after a Pokomon.

4. Animal Collective - Brother Sport (Domino)
This is a track from the new Animal Collective 10" which was released last week through Domino. Animal Collective will release a new EP on the label entitled "Fall Be Kind" on 14th December.

5. Schlomo - Socks (Error Broadcast)
Taken from the "Shlo-Fi" ep which is available now through Error Broadcast.

Doolittle 6. Pixies - No 13 Baby (4AD)
Released back in 1989, yes I know it doesn't seem like twenty years. This is one of my favourite tracks from the album "Doolittle".

7. Guitar - Hira Hira (And Records)
Taken from the new album "Friends" which is only physically available in Japan but you van get the mp3's via i-tunes. Guitar consist of Michael Lueckner & Ayako Akashiba and have completely passed me by. There appears to be about six previous records to investigate and I think I need all of them. The dog in the picture by the way is Ayako's dog "Sakura".

Extended Play 8. The Raincoats - No-one's Little Girl (Blast First)
I've included this track simply because Mr Vicent reminded me about them last time we went out for a beer. It's taken from the "Extended Play" ep which was recorded in 1994 when the band had re-formed to support Nirvana. Unfortunately Kurt Cobain departed before they got a chance to do that. They recorded these tracks as a Peel Session in April 1994 and subsequently released them as the "Extended Play" ep later in the year. I think this version of "No-one's Little Girl" is just perfect.

fredricson - Misc - 9. Fredricson - Rub (Preco)
I can't tell you very much about this at all aside from it comes from an album which appears to be called "Misc".

10. Beauty Feast - Soon We'll Know (Vanity Imprint)
It doesn't get much cuter than this.

Oppressed by the Line11. Oppressed By The Line - Sunset From The Sixteenth Floor (Winterlight Remix)
Aaahhhh that's better. Taken from the "Kiku" ep. Recommended!

Grace and the Bigger Picture 12. Johnny Foreigner - Ghost The Festivals (Best Before)
Another track from one of my favorite albums at the moment "Grace & The Bigger Picture".

13. Singing Bridges - Crazy Street (Skipping Stones)
Taken from the new "Three Trains"ep

14. Krash - Keep The Bass (Download)
I'm just not hearing enough of this kind of thing at the moment. I'm sure there is loads out there I just need to look harder. Bangin'

Derivative 15. Remora - Every Prince (Gears Of Sand)
This is just so beautiful. Remora is basically Brian John Mitchell who is the bloke behind Silber Records who have sent me quite a bit of stuff recently including a new Aarktika album which I hope to get round to later today.

The Orchids - London, New Cross 22nd August 1992

Lyceum + SinglesStriving for the Lazy Perfection + Singles

It's been a while since we had a really old set on Burning World. Back in the early 1990's I was quite into the whole Sarah Records thing and still occasionally dig out old records when the mood takes. Bootlegs of Sarah bands have always been a bit thin on the ground and if anyone out there has any please get in touch.
This is a set by one of the more prolific Sarah bands. The Orchids come from Glasgow and released their debut single "I've Got A Habit" on Sarah (Sarah 2) back in 1988. I think the first record I bought by them was a lovely 10" mini album called "Lyceum". At one point I used to collect 10" records just because they look so good on the turntable. Between 1988 and 1994 The Orchids released seven singles and three albums on the Sarah label before vanishing into the abyss. They did re-emerge a couple of years ago with a new album called "Good To Be A Stranger" but the less said about that the better.

Pod Fodder (Volume Fifty Seven)

1. Surfer Blood - Floating Vibes (Kanine)
This track comes from the debut album from Surfer Blood who I assume are a bunch of students from Florida judging by the fact that the album was recorded in their University Of Florida dorm room. Thinking about it quite a few classic debut albums have been recorded in cheap places for not very much money. The Fall have been doing it for years! The album is called "Astro Coast" and will be released through Kanine on 19th January.

2. The Joy Formidable - Greyhounds In The Slips (Self Released)
This track is available as a free download from the bands myspace page and is the first new track released since their superb "A Balloon Called Moaning" mini album earlier in the year. As I mentioned on the live recordings which you can download further down this page they will release an official live album called "First You Have To Get Mad" on 16th November and this too can be downloaded from the bands myspace.

3. Rye n' Clover - Black Hoody Dreams ()
Taken from the album "Pencils, Paper & Scissors".

4. Four Tet - Love Cry (Domino)
Every week there seems to be one record which jumps out and kicks me in the nuts. This week it's the new Four Tet single. While I have quite enjoyed some of their previous stuff "Love Cry" is, in my opinion their best work to date. A nine minute monster which in a sensible world would be pumping out over dancefloors worldwide. "Love Cry" will be released through Domino Records (the new home of The Fall) on 8th December. The information I have, which is probably entirely wrong suggests that it will only be released on vinyl, and why not.

Tarot Sport 5. Fuck Buttons - Olympians (ATP)
I expect you're all on first name terms with this album by now but there still may be a few strange creatures who are unaware that the album "Tarot Sport" has life giving properties and therefore should be secreted somewhere around your person at all times. I have opted to carry mine in my ipod but the choice is yours.

Introducing 6. Brilliant Colors - Short Sleeves At Night (Slumberland)
Another winner from the Slumberland stable. The album is simply entitled "Introducing..." and will be available from next week.

Brakes - Why Tell The Truth (When It's Easier To Lie)? / Worry About It Later 7. Brakes - Why Tell The Truth (When It's Easier To Lie) (Fat Cat)
This is one side of the Brigton bands new AA sided single. The other track is called "Worry About It Later" and will be released through Fat Cat next week.

8th November - Cardiff - Clwb Ifor Bach
9th November - Brighton, Komedia
10th November - London, Relentless Garage

Drift 8. Nosaj Thing - Us (Alpha Pup)
I'm a little bit late on this one. The album is called "Drift" and has been around since the summer. Still, better late than never.

9. Loomer - Damned (Midsummer Madness)
Taken from the Brazilian bands current "Mind Drops" EP.

Beak 10. Beak> - Pill (Invada)
This track comes from the Bristol band's self titled debut album which is available now through Invada Records. They have some UK dates coming up next month and I think they'll be well worth checking out.

Pitch 11. Slicnaton - Suite Life (Extemporate)
Very strange record this. Not the easiest listen but well worth an hour of your time. I turned it up really loud and one of the cats went into the next room and hid under the bed.

12. Freelance Whales - Location (Self Released)
Sometimes it's nice to get an album which is just... well, nice. "Weathervanes" is the title of the debut offering by the well named Freelance Whales. Apart from anything else, how often do you get a song title with a ^ in it?

Eyelid Movies 13. Phantogram - Running From The Cops (Barely Breaking Even)
Am I just imagining it or did there used to be a particularly hideous heavy metal band calledPhantogram? If there did then please do not confuse them with this Phantogram who hail from New York and have produced a damn good album called "Eyelid Movies". I suspect it may already be available in the states but it will finally get a European release on 18th January.

18th November - Cardiff, 10 Feet Tall
19th November - Leeds, Brudnell Social Club
20th November - Northampton, Labor Club
21st November - London, The Rest Is Noise

14. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Higher Than The Stars (Others In Conversation Remix) (Fortuna Pop)
2009 has been a fantastic year for The Pains. They have given us a classic debut album some great singles and wherever they play someone always seems to be on hand to record it. This track is a remix of the lead track on their recent "Higher Than The Stars" EP and is better than the Saint Etienne remix which can be found on the CD version of that. It's also available on theFortuna Pop website which I recommend you visit forthwith.

The Joy Formidable - 2 Sets

Why have one when you can have two? Both of these sets were recorded on the bands recent UK tour supporting Passion Pit. I for one can't wait until their new album is complete but if you can't wait that long pop over to their myspace page where you can download a brand new track "Greyhounds In The Slips" and pre order their forthcoming live album which was recorded in September at The Garage in London Town and will be of far superior quality to the recordings below. The live album is called "First You Have To Get Mad" and will be released on 16th November. It's limited to just 500 copies and costs just six quid so you'd better get your skates on.
The band are currently touring Europe with The Temper Trap.
